From what I understand, folks in MS didn't do so bad after Katrina. My brother was there the first week, very close to Gulfport. He said they were assisting in law enforcement duties and ran across a family patrolling their old neighborhood armed. They stated "Deputy sheriffs came by yesterday, told us to shoot the looters since there was no place to put them." and they smiled, so everybody had a good laugh, was like "Yeah, now that's funny maybe we SHOULD start telling people that." The family was dumbstruck. "No, they really DID tell us to shoot the looters."

That's called 'grass', Californy fellow, and it grows wild here in Texas.

We don't have to buy it from Meskins here in Texas.

If you look into the next yard, you will see a nicely mowed lawn, with a finely sculpted hedge....

(BTW, that's not anyone's yard, but the easement of the street. The city folks mow these areas)

Maybe there is hope in some places.
