I just returned from what is grandaddy of all chili cook-offs. For those who have never heard of it, a quick education can be found here .
The CASI cook-off is a true international competition. I met people from Canada, Kalifornia, and Maine; all of which seemed to have a good time with the rest of us redneck Texans.

A few things I learned from the experience:

1. Do not underestimate the amount of water you will need for 4 days in the desert.

2. Do not wear beads unless you want to see things that can not be unseen.

3. Take the drive to Presidio, and if at all possible do it on a motorcycle. (It was truly a beautiful ride with a few white knuckle moments)

4. Chili is not taken lightly, and anyone putting beans in their chili will be strung up. Instant disqualification. You have to have won multiple cook-offs to even be qualified to enter, so they know their chili.

I wish I could post pics, but I don't have the camera. The bachelor took it home with him, and will most likely be using the contents as black mail later.

We had no idea of what we were getting into, but the whiskey and beer flowed as a river, and the trip made the perfect bachelor party for the poor bastard who calls us his friends.
I recommend it to anyone wanting a weekend they can't really talk about in polite company.
BTW: Not family friendly by any stretch of the imagination.

Damn, my buddy and I were just there the week before, I would have loved to been there for this! We rode our bikes down from DFW and camped in Big Bend for the week.
