Winter, or what passes for it in California) is upon us.  Had the first ice of the year on the windshield this morning.  High temp just under 60 today with mid 30's predicted again for tonight.

Making a pot of stew for dinner.  Been smelling the beef simmering all afternoon and just dumped the carrots and taters into the pot.

I love when temps drop and it's comfort food season.

I much prefer the colder weather.

If I want, the mountains are only a couple hours away to go play in the snow.

You ain't kidding Vaca. Last week it was in the low 70's, T shirt weather during the day. Thursday and Friday a cold front came down from the North and it was frikken cold at night. I had to fire up my furnace for the first time last night.

Temps seemed to have dropped early here, but the leaves are still turning colors on schedule.  Which means they haven't yet.  Except for a few early trees that are completely bald already.

Cold front blew through here last night - 18 degrees last night.
I screwed up big time and didn't preflight my furnace, it didn't work last night....
Woke up to a house that was 47 degrees.

I found the problem, the vacuum switch that monitors the pre-run plenum flush, I'll get a replacement tomorrow.
Thank God for the wood burning fireplace!

Yep.  Looking forward to Thanksgiving weekend.  Should be snow on the ground up around Susanville.  Always fun to fish and hit the quads in the white stuff.

You know those mountains just to the west of town?  Go spend some time in them, especially at night.  You'll get all the cold weather you could possibly want.

Best thing is being able to snuggle up to the old lady at night without feeling like your spooning a lit presto log.

I know all about them mountains.  My family had a cabin in Grizzley Flats when I was growing up.  Spent a lot of time up in the Sierra.

Oh no, I was talking about the ones you can see from Vacaville.  Mt. Vaca reaches a height >2600ft.

Oh, you mean the HILLS outside town.

Sorry, but anything under 5000 feet isn't a mountain.

Where I am, it's going to be 10 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill when I start work in the morning. And it hasn't even started getting really cold yet.
