You need some context. This movie was made in the mid 70's and was one of the films that launched Scorcese as a film maker. It got a lot of attention at the time and was IMO, well deserved.

Really? Because it seemed like a movie about a loser who drove a taxi cab, went to porn flicks like pee wee herman, and wanted to get on a 15 year old. It ranks up there with a clock work orange as being overhyped. |

Sorta a genre film about NYC, it captures Scorcese's hometown as an outsider would see it, drug dealers, cheating wives, 14yo hookers, steam rising from the sewers, Yellow Checker Cab, illegal gun sales, indifferent women, porno on 42nd St., crazy customers in the back of the Checker, quintessential NYC.
