NO... not another restaurant tip thread NOR is it a cow tipping thread.

Do you tip services? like a plumber or APPLIANCE REPAIRMAN?? today I got a flat tire and pulled into the service station. They fixed me up... charged me a few bucks but I tipped the guy 5.00 for helping me out. He was saying "OH NO!! I cant take this... it was my job" I told him "Knock it off... of course you can take it... thanks and have a great day"

I always tip people who do work in the house... do any of you strongly believe you should or should not?

I don't tip people for doing their job. I tip people for going above and beyond what their job requirements call for.

Do you know how well plumbers get paid?

Tipping them would be like putting on a condom for the guy that's about to rape you!!

No. I think if people have to deal with you, you should pay that AT LEAST THREE FOLD!!!!

But seriously. when I worked in NY I came home with anywhere between 60.00-100.00 a day in tips. California, I am lucky I make that a month. Just find that ideas of tipping changed when the geography changed.

I worked as a mobile pc tech in NV and got tips all the time.  They key is to pretend like you care about all the crap they tell you about.  Ask questions about things on the walls etc.  People are lonely and will pay someone to talk to them :)

I do make a good wage but sometimes when you get an "attaboy" you appreciate the thanks. Matter of fact, you remember that customer for the next time.

Doesnt always have to be money either. I have gotten the following items as well:

Cookies
Wine
boxes of ammo ... yes, AMMO
Bibles
CD's
Jams & Jellies
Fruit
Meat (from a hunter)
Fish (guy just got back from a fishing trip in Alaska)
Airplanes (static display ones)
big ol' tub of popcorn (Holiday Season)

Dr Frige! You and I are both in the A/C and Frig business . We both can say we are taken care of by the great people from back North East. The rest of the country dosen't give a shit. All of my tips for my service as a A/C tech have come from back North East customers. The rest of the country is full of cheap bastards. So dont  expect any sympathy her at AR15. COM.

I love and will treat, real customers from New York/New Jersey and Illionions, very well. Just a nineteen year A/C tech speaking. If you want honesty. Prove it.

You don't want sympathy, you want to get paid more.

Well, if you want more money then increase your bill, what's the problem?

Or if it's just about being appreciated then getting paid and told thank you should be enough.

But don't tell me a job costs so many dollars and then after you do the job expect me to pay you more.  That's just wrong.

If they did a good job , quickly and with a good attitude
then yes I tip them .

It's just another way of saying thanks . Something that's
sorely lacking in society today . I'm sad to say .

As a side note :

This rule is for employees only , tipping the business owner
isn't necessary . In fact it used to be considered bad form .

If they earn the tip I will, though never for fast food, and rarely for service stations.  Contractors may get a "bonus" if they actually do decent work, otherwise to hell with them

Nope Sorry ...

I'm a biz owner too . The rule for an owner is to decline twice .
If they insist a third time , you respectfully accept . Then use the money
to buy lunch or something for your employees .

If you don't have employees , then you use it to buy something
for your spouse or children

always tip the pizza guy good because remember he's been alone with your pizza for 10 minutes and you better keep him happy.
