I guess recent efforts to build a weapons scanner to see through clothing is in vain. The use of hi-tech devices will not be allowed without a warrent. This decision will not deter some police departments such as Boston, LAPD & others who feel the constitution is obsolete. Instead of admitting to use of the scanner, they will simply use the ever-present "anonymous tip". marsh

Don't read too much into this. The ruling technically applies only to homes, and may not protect you on the street. The lineup of the justices is interesting. Three of the "conservative" justices {The Chief Justice, Justice O’Connor, and Justice Kennedy) and one communist dissented. Only two conservative justices (Scalia and Thomas) went with the majority. More of the communist justices thought the search was unconstitutional than "conservative" ones!

That's the way it usually is. The Federalist Five are great for some rights, the four commies are great for other rights.
