I read somewhere else that every time the pilot used the ailerons, the plane detected the movement as an external force- and tried to correct. Does that make sense to the pilots on here? |

Thanks for the links. I've seen similar problems on other aircraft over correcting, but that was usually associated with autopilot or SAS (stability augmentation system) problems. Turn the autopilot or SAS off, and no more problem. I don't see a TU-154 being anymore complicated than that. In fact, I don't think they are even flown anymore in Russia. |

The wing design of the Tu-154 neither lends itself to yaw dampeners nor, in theory, should require them. Its problem is lateral instability. Dutch rolls are more of a western-airliner specific problem, normally, due to the opposite verticle wing sweep. While that does appear to be a dutch roll, that is an unnatural state for that aircraft. It is probably being caused by a flight control failure of some sort... That pilot is wasting a shitload of energy in the struggle for control... Concerning... Wonder what the failure was? TR85. |
