The State of Florida implemented a rebate program to encourage residents to invest in solar energy.  Homeowners bought products ranging from solar water tank pre-heaters to whole-roof solar electrical systems.  Florida now owes around $58 million in rebates, but doesn't have the money.

Nobody wants taxes to pay for stuff like this.

The companies that sold the gear didn't sign up for paying the rebates.

The Solar Rebate Program has proven very popular. Due to the large volume of rebate applications, the state has exhausted the available funding. The Florida Legislature did not appropriate any funding during the 2010 Regular Session for the Solar Rebate Program and the program will sunset June 30, 2010. Pursuant to Sections 377.801-377.806, Florida Statutes, the Governor’s Energy Office, will continue to accept and process applications until June 30, 2010, placing them on a waiting list in the event there are funding opportunities in the future.

THERE IS NO FUNDING AVAILABLE.

Suckers....
