I was just wondering if M855/M193 rounds are sealed and submersable? Would it matter if it was Prvi partisan instead of lake city?

I've gotten XM193 wet before but never under water for along time. Everything I have read/heard said to not got your ammo soaked/under water for long periods of time. The only Privi problems I have heard about are with expansion.

I dont really worry about long term submersion, just if I had to swim through some water or something with my rifle I was wondering if they would still fire off.

I would think so. The military does that kinda stuff.

I wouldn't worry about it, just don't sink your ammo stash at the bottom of the ocean.

I reloaded some .308 once, dropped 20 loose  rounds in deep snow. 4 months later, snow melted  and became  a  shallow pond.  after about a month, the pond dried out, and I salvaged 19  of my reloads .... they ALL fired with no apparent problem.
I took NO special care to seal those  rounds, just regular commercial components, in well used brass.

Pretty much all ammunition is water resistant.  The seal between the primer and the case, and the bullet and the case, is pretty solid.  The sealer on military stuff is actually to prevent humidity from damaging the powder and primer in long term storage.  Even without that, you have to really abuse modern (post Korean War) ammunition to screw it up.

M193 is sealed.  M855 is sealed.  Submersible?   Meh.

Lake City XM193 and Win Q3131(A[1]) are not required to be M193 spec, they are (probably) a duplicate loading only.  The stories are numerous and varied regarding the presence and quantity of sealant.

Unless Prvi currently has a US .mil contract, their M193 and M855 equivalents do not HAVE to be sealed.  I don't think they have such a contract.  I could be misinformed.  It's happened before.  Often.

So then, as I understand it...nothing YOU can buy can be counted on to be sealed.  It might be sealed anyway.  If it is, good luck finding a spec regarding the watertightness of that seal.  PRVI M193 reviewed on the sight was found to have the tar neck sealant.

The sealant is for rain/wet storage.
