How do gas wells drill horizontally after drilling vertically for 5,000 ft? Its it GPS? Can a GPS signal reach that far under ground?
This has really been amazing me lately after reading about Marcellus shale drilling. Some wells can go down 5,000 ft, then turn horizontal and drill another 5,000 ft over to extend into a shale layer that's between 50 and 200 ft thick. To me, it's am amazing feat of engineering marvel. |

I find the process amazing. I've looked at some clients water pumps for the frac'ing process and they are huge. What kind of water volume are they pushing, and what pressure are they generating? |
