Even though France opposed the Iraq war.  I thought American policies caused terrorism.  France appeases them at every turn, is stridently anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian, and yet they still target France.

Terror suspects eyeing up Paris metro, airport

Tue Sep 27, 5:09 AM ET

PARIS, (AFP) - Terror suspects detained in France had been eyeing up the Parisian metro network, an airport and the headquarters of the domestic intelligence service as possible targets, sources close to the investigation said.

The suspicions were based on an intelligence tip-off from Algeria and from telephone surveillance, although there is no hard evidence they had settled on a particular target, they said.

Nine people were detained by police early Monday in a series of raids west of Paris in what officials said was a crackdown on suspected Islamic terrorist activities.

Among those being held is Safe Bourada, 35, who was released from prison in 2003 after five years for helping organise a series of bomb attacks in France in 1995 for the Algerian Armed Islamic Group (GIA).

Seven of those held were described as targets of the police operation, and the two others happened to be with them when the round-up took place.

Officials said the men were members of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), an armed Algerian group that grew out of the GIA and has links to the Al-Qaeda network. Bourada was described as their ringleader.

The GSPC has threatened to carry out attacks in France and it is seen as a credible danger by intelligence officials.

The interior ministry announced later Monday the government has prepared a series of new anti-terrorism measures including increased use of video-surveillance and improved police access to Internet and mobile telephone records amid the heightened threat of terrorism.

Shh, it's not nice to point out the massive flaws in liberal apologism/rabid anti-Americanism.

+1.

That's the bottom line.  Charles (the Hammer) Martel & all that.

I'll keep on saying this:  If you want to know where this is going, look at where it's been.

Read the history of Islam & jihad.

The official socialist response would be... but see how we caught it before it happened?

Well good for the French on that.  France is very hardcore and intolerant towards militiant Islam within its borders.  All I'm saying is this undermines the arguments of people who say Muslims hate us because of our foreign policies, and if we only did everything the terrorists wanted, they would have no reason to attack us.

France does EVERYTHING in the pro-terrorist playbook to my knowledge, except that they forbid women from wearing head scraves in school, because it's a religious symbol.  France opposes ALL religion in public spaces, it's not singling out Islam.  Turkey does this also.  Apparently, this French policy is enough to warrant Islamist calls to kill innocent people.  So I ask liberals, who are probably secular and largely agree with France's anti-religion policy: Who has the problem here?  France, or Islamists?  Do you think maybe this tendency to kill at the drop of a hat or the slightest perceived injustice is the problem, or France's policies?

Algerian muslim terrorists have been at odds with France for years and years.  Algeria used to be ruled by France until the early 1960's.

I'm sure it has something to do with France's support of whomever is currently in power in Algeria that the islamoasswipes want thrown out.

I'm sure it doesn't. Algeria is ancient history.  And while there is a fundamentalist opposition to the Algerian military government that has produced a civil war, to my knowledge it is not a major issue in France.

Get a clue!   Islam is intent on world domination.  Current populations in Europe are on the rise (can you say "Eurabia"?)...the decline of Judao-christian value system has created a vacum  which Islam can fill...by ideology or Jihad, this has been the intent since Muhammed came on the scene...read yer history...

Well first of all its because the people who are protesting are NOT Liberals, its a misnomer.
They are Socialist autocrats, some even may still be Communists depending on how poor they are.
But they are not Liberals since their only intereste is forceing their Socialist agenda onto others whether those people want it or not.  Keeping religion out of goverment is good, since it preserves the autonomy of religious minorities as well as the non-religious majority.

If these people were truely "liberals" they would realize that what is going on here is a attempt to impose a Islamic Theocracy on the world.  But they continue to think that opposing the economic power of the United States- and how it gives the lie to their Socialist world view is more important than opposing the Islamic threat.

Algeria is NOT ancient history.  The GIA has been bombing French interests for as long as UBL has been bombing US interests (maybe longer):

Armed Islamic Group (GIA)

Paris Bombings

Remember, these guys think in terms of years and decades not days and months like westerners do.  It is nothing for them to lay low for 5 years or more then strike when everyone gets complacent.

When will the ROP apologists show up in this thread? They'd say..."but the whole religion isn't bad, just a few of them"...

That's what the French get for being passive-aggressive.
They won't support the US in Iraq (mostly because Saddam hadn't finished paying for that fancy air defense system he had bought from France.)
But, they came down hard on Muslims in the country, prohibiting Muslims schoolgirls from wearing their hejabs. (The traditional scarf that covers their hair, a sign of modesty.)
This brought much ire from pretty much every Muslim in the country.

FWIW - any religious symbols may not be worn in the public schools.
No crosses, yamulkas, or hejabs.
Islamofacism is a disease of the skin.
Socialist tyranny is a disease of the heart.

+1 on the "see? socialism works - we caught them before anything happened."

Good call Mcnielsen.
Shows you know the score.
OBL calls for the death of anyone who does not join in jihad.
All muslims who are not killing Americans/Westerners are heretics in his eyes.
