I recently received a box of 25 cigars as a gift.  I have never had that many cigars at one time before.  I was hoping I could get some advice on how to keep them?  I read the FAQ's, but I have never had a humidor before.  I have just bought a few and smoked them in the past.

Should I buy a humidor kit?  Is there a good one I should look for?

I really don't want to let this generous gift go to waste.

Thanks in advance.

If you plan on smoking for a while, by far the cheapest and most efficient method is a coolerdor.  Do a search for my post on the how-to.

Short term you can simply get a humidification source (like a humidification tube or a travel humi pillow) and place that with your cigars in a large ziplock bag.

Thanks for the reply.  I have an extra one of these .  Do you think it will work for short term humidification?

Do not use that!!!!

Get something made for tobacco....they are dirt cheap and recharge with either PG solution or DISTILLED water.

You can't find one....IM me your address and I will send you something!

I ordered some of the tubes last night.   I wouldn't have used it long term..  I was just thinking until the tubes got here.  I won't use it if it won't work.

Thanks for the help.

I love the tubes for my herfadores.....I have a 5, 10, 15, 30, 50 and 100 count.....yes....slippery slope victim...
I keep a few bottles of PG solution in the office, at home and one in the truck.

Enjoy!

I keep about 2lbs of unscented kitty litter crystals in my winodor and it keeps everything at a rock steady 65%. Way cheaper than "humidor beads". You get 8lbs of the stuff for under $20.
That plus a small cooler (which you may already have) will keep 25 or even 100 just fine.

Sounds like you're sorted out OP, good things.  If you start building a coolerdor, see my thread and or get in touch w/ me via email/IM and I'll help you get set up.

Thanks...  Right now I have a couple tubes and a small 25-50 humidor that wasn't very expensive for the time being.  The cooledor is something I might move up to before too long.

My humidor arrived, and I am seasoning it now.  I have noticed a lot of pictures where some cigars are wrapped in plastic and others aren't.  Most of my cigars come individually wrapped in plastic.

Should I leave them in the plastic or take them out before putting them in the humidor?  Seems like they would dry out in the humidor if they are completely wrapped in plastic.

Leave them in the plastic.

The 'plastic' is more typically called 'cello' for cellophane.  It's permeable so leave it on your cigars.

Cigars in a tubo..you can take the cap off if you want, not necessary.  If they come in a glass tubo, I will almost always take them out of the tubo or open it up as the cigars really can't breathe.

Hopefully your cat doesn't get in to your "winodor."   But seriously, do you charge the crystals with distilled water?  PG solution?

Just have the cat occasionally dry dock a stink pickle in the warm sands of the SS Humidor and you're all set.

Is that where the Ghurkas get their smell?
