So there was rumour that a sequel to the 1994 movie Stargate was to be made but never was.

I'm not sure how you do a sequel to that movie?

I understand the spinoff TV shows.

There are several movies based on the TV series, which is very good.

Unless it involves mountain lions, I would not be interested.

Exactly like the show? But with one-L-O'Neil?

Besides, at the end of the movie they still have a functional, if temporarily limited, stargate, and per the show they have a second gate in Antarctica, bajillions of aliens zip around in FTL ships, and at least one ancient automated seeder ship that revisits old stargate posts.

The movie Independence Day was originally supposed to be the sequel to Stargate but they ended up changing it for some reason.

But once that alien dude gets blown up, the movie is basically over, no?

I just don't see any material left for another movie

Ever seen any of the 3 stargate tv series? There are a hell of a lot more alien dudes out there.

I like the SG-1 T.V. spin off series and all, but I find the original movie far superior overall. I would have liked to have seen a sequel. Heck, as long as Russel was in it, it would have been worth a look.

The Star Gate movie is an example of a movie with a great idea and piss poor story that killed it. The TV series put the movie to shame.

Apparently the guy who wrote the story was upset that a spin-off series was made as it did not fit his story at all.  He had intended Stargate to be a trilogy and he still wanted to make the two sequels but outside of a niche following I doubt it would get much attention with the success Stargate has had as a TV show because the storylines have almost nothing in common.

Any idea what the last two films would have covered?

They should make a sequel where the Orisi captures Colonel Carter and personally purifies her with a sponge, for 90 minutes, the end.  I'll be in my bunk.
