Edjamacate me on the SAR-8 oh great and wise gd.

Is it a decent rifle?
What are the differences between it and the Hk91?
What would be a good price for a 'like new' SAR-8?

IIRC, they are post-import ban versions of the SAR-3 which was a licensed made copy of the HK-91.  For a while you could get a kit from SA to convert it to SAR-3 specs.

Good gun.

I had one. Save your money, it's nothing special.

Update, got a price.

$950 with 4 mags, original owners manual and the guy "believes it to be unfired".

Good deal?

Decent price. The mags are worth about $4 each

Some of them were Greek made HK91s, pre 89 I think, good rifles, I want one to sit next to my 91.

After that they were made with foreign kits and an aluminium reciever. You do not want one of those. Under recoil the steel pin that holds the trunion to the aluminium receiver begins to "egghole" the aluminium. Creating missfires and poor accuracey. Eventualy the weapon will become an expensive club. You can pick out the aluminium version by its horrible looking receiver, it looks like it has been sand blasted and painted black, and a raised pic rail is pemanently cast itno the top of it.

+1

If it has a rail machined across the top, it's the bad one.  The only good thing about the crappy ones is when they failed SA was at one point replacing them with M1As

I purchased one new in box from a gun store.  Took it to the range and I couldn't hit paper at 100.  Decided to look down the barrel...   It looked like some poured hydrochloric acid down it.  Took it back to the gun store they said deal w/ Springfield.  I called Springfield and they told me they use previously used G3 barrels for these "new guns".  Told me I could send it back but they couldn't promise it would be a new barrel. Told me I could trade it in for an M1A or any other Sprinfiled product.   I won't tell you what I ended up doing with the rifle.
