Weather went from hard winter to spring overnight and nature is freaking out and doesn't like me. Had to work an ass busting 10 hour day with no breaks, all the while a geyser was spraying out my nose. Non stop sneezing fits, almost like seizures, ears throbbing, head pounding, eyes swollen and teared up, face raw like I've been dragged across cement. Finally home and things are getting a little better. Took a Clareton and another over the counter sinus med.

Anybody else hit hard? Better drugs?

I'm on Singulair. No allergy problems anymore. This is coming from somebody who has awful allergies.

You need to get tested by a doc for what specifically is causing you grief, over the counter stuff is crap, they have some good drugs out there that will help a LOT. I work with someone who has been through hell with his allergies.

Don't just take Claritin when you need it, take it every day.  It takes a while to build up to full levels in your blood, and it can take up to a week of taking it before it reaches full effect.

Oh yeah.  It almost knocks me on my ass.  I use Flonase to control mine.  I'll start about the middle of April and use it through May.  I'm usually GTG after that, but keep it close for a couple more weeks just in case.

Here locally, the pollen count spiked to 14 trillion last week, and it has kicked my ass. I also used the neti-pot, but unfortunately the first time didn't have any non-iodized salt, so I used the iodized and that hurt like a mofo. Then next few times just used luke warm water with no salt at all, and I'm starting to feel much better since doing this.

I'v gotta say...one of the greatest blessings in my life is that I have no allergies.

I know that could change in a New York minute, but for now, I am very, very happy not to have to suffer like you poor bastards do.

The pollen is so thick here in Scottsdale that the last little rain we had washed tons of it off the roof and anything else leaving lime green patterns around the rain puddles everywhere.

My Allergies have been worse this year than any time I can remember with sneezing fits that were so violent that they caused electric shock though my body and down my arms that make my elows hurt for minutes after.

I hate taking allergy meds and usually forgo them and put up with the minor symptoms, but this year I'm eating them like candy and using my neti pot 4 or 5 times a day.

About twice a year my allergies hit me hard, for about a week.  Over the counter meds have been no use.  I've gotten a few prescription meds as well that have been worthless.  Always turns into an upper-respritory infections as well.  I hate allergies.

On a side not I have found that I can still function on 300mg of benydryl over a 16hr period.

Available OTC:

Zyrtec-Take one every night. Always take the 12-24 hour antihistamines at night so your histamine receptors will be blocked when pollen counts are the highest. Take any of the shorter acting ones the first thing in the morning for the same reason.

Zaditor-The only effective over-the-counter allergy eye drops. Was prescription until about 2 years ago.

The above will help until you can see your doctor about Flonase or another intranasal steroid. Unfortunately, it takes about a week to notice improvement. I'm in the south, so the srring pollen bloom starts pretty early. I start my Flonase with the Daytona 500 and take it until the fall. I do hear the Singulair works well, but it requires a prescription and I've never tried it.

Have suffered with allergies for about 40 years and have been there and done that. Always follow label directions.

I am ruined this week.

I haven't felt this awful from the pollen in some time.  I almost didn't go shooting today it was so bad.  I sat on a bench BSing for 30 minutes before I pulled out my rifle.
ETA: then that stupid, evil bastard LECH calls me up and tells me it is tree sperm.  Says I might as well be in a Southern Yellow Pine bukake video.  So, does this make me gay now?

I'm on Flonase, Astelin, Singulair, Xopenex, Symbicort, and Claritin.  I used to be a miserable sob before I was put on all of these.  Now I can actually breathe and don't have constant snot nose.  Thank God I'm military and get them all free or I'd be broke.

They allergy tested me a couple of years ago and I was highly allergic to everything.

I have had life long allergies but for me I have found something that I believe works.  It is a little know supplement called pycnogenol and is a powerful antioxidant.  You can look it up on the internet because I can't articulate all that it does.  I take that with a mult-vitamin and fish oil pills and I can honestly say that I haven't been sick since starting this going on two years now.  I quit smoking about the same time and that is a big help too.  When my kids had the Type A flu and I was home with them this past flu season, I felt the symptoms coming down on me but my body fought them off and I never got it.  I didn't get a flu shot either this past year.  I have noticed that I will start to get sick with upper respiratory ailments and my body fights it off.  My 12 year old son has allegies worse than me and I am having him take the three I mentioned and I have noticed a big difference in his health.  I would definitely try it or at least look into it.  The multi vitamins and fish oil are readily available but the pycnogenol is harder to find and I get my from Swanson's Health Products online but there are other places.  Don't expect immediate results because it takes a few weeks to build up enough effectiveness in your body.  It might be the thing that works for you.  I am pushing 50 now and looking back at all the prescription meds and injections that I have take which include pretty much what everyone has said, I am just amazed and wished I would have found this earlier.

I get pretty bad allergies in the spring/summer.  Most of the perscription and over the counter drugs either didn't help or made me tired.  I read in an old home remedy book about Pantothenic Acid.  I take at least 500 mg of it and withhin 20 minutes I'm feeling better.  I always kept a bottle of it on hand at work and it has helped many of my co workers as well.  Pantothenc acid is a B vitamin, cheaper than other drugs, and has no side effects.  Taking it every day durring allergy season seems to work best.

I've been sick as a dog for a week now; I've been taking the 24hr. zyrtec for over a year now thinking it I wouldn't get hit as hard now during this peak time but it's been like I haven't even used it at all.

In fact I've gone from general 'allergy symptoms' to having full blown upper reperitory and sinus infections complete with thick phlem and pus sputum. Night time and early morning are the worst for me, I tend to feel a little better during the day. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait for the HEAT to start so it kills off the bloom. Only then will I get any relief......

I'm allergic to live oak pollen. Never had any issues with it until I was about 13, and BOOM! I grew up on 20 acres of live oak trees. It SUCKED!
Fortunately, I spent the last 6 years in other places other than Texas and no where near live oaks.
Unfortunately, I am back here, and its bugging the hell out of me right now.

I forgot I had a neti pot, and I am going to use it in a few minutes.

Allergies are weird for me.  I am allergic as hell to house dust, cats, and mildly allergic to horses.
Everything in my yard is covered in pollen right now and it doesn't bother me one little bit.
Maybe my woodsy upbringing has given me some degree of immunity.
