Looking at the spot gen3 at Cabela's.com

Says there is a 50% rebate if you buy before July 31

Still not sure I need one.

this looks like a manufacturer rebate, it shows on Cabelas and Bass Pro websites.

I have a gen 3,   works pretty good,   doesn't work real well in deep canyons or under tree cover ( as far as dropping pins on your route map ).

I don't ride without it as pretty much everywhere my friends and I ride there is NO cell service.   100$ a year for the subscription is fucking cheap if it saves you or one of your buddies lives.

It depends on the riding that you are planning on doing.  If you are just eating up interstate miles it may not be worth it.  If you are hitting up back country trails, then it may save your butt.

Search some reviews first. After reading lots of negative reviews I went with the Inreach and never lost service once all through Central America. I could text through it and actually could use my phone as a Bluetooth keypad.

Inreach spot is a common thread at ADVrider and inreach seems much more popular.
