I've never been able to slow my reading down. I scan chunks of text and miss much of the nuance, I've always been that way. When the book is finished, I remember the gist of the story, but forget some of the details. I love reading nonetheless, but when I get a good book in my hand, it's a race to finish. I have always wished that I were one of those people that can quote from their favorite works, but my memory isn't that great. |
| There is a free online course at www.readspeeder.com that has gotten pretty good reviews, but as a few others here have pointed out, speed reading for comprehension (and out of necessity) is different than speed reading for pleasure. I've never really enjoyed the books that I've hurried through. The content is the same, but something is lost when I don't take the time to process emotion while reading, especially with fiction. |
