That's super cool. Wish it was a 360 with zoom and stuff.

Looks like they have kept the MFD's upgraded and everything still look so new. When you see military cockpits, everything is super clean and in perfect working order but you can tell it has been used a lot with paint/coatings being rubbed off and paint chipped. That looks brand new. Guessing absolutely none of what I am looking at is original or 'factory'.

I can't help but think that an expert in user interfaces could take all that and make an IPAD ap that would make everything 10,000x easier/faster/better/etc.

That's just too complicated looking.  I prefer the simplicity of the Russian space shuttle Buran .  No bright lights and screens to distract me.  LOL!!

Oh and edited to add, it also includes padded seats too!!

I imagine there is a lot of redundancy there and that most of those switches are backups to the same selections on the MFD's. If the computer goes down I bet they grab a huge book of procedures with pics and checklists of where to find the right toggle switches though I am sure they train a lot with it too.

Pic I found in my photobucket account.  Up until the layoffs, my dad helped build the ET at the Michoud facility in New Orleans.

Ginormous collection of space shuttle images here.  http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/multimedia/index.html

I pray that we will see the USA become the leader in manned space flight within my lifetime.  If that must be via commercial collaboration, then so be it.

Where does the door-gunner sit ? I know they have one, I met one in the food court at Merritt Square before a mission... or so he claimed.

...except that ship never had a crew. The only flight was automated. I suspect the final system was never installed.
