Open discussion about space weaponry, particularly interested in space to earth delivery systems.

Is it feasible to have a kinetic energy reentry weapon that relies solely on Hyper speed and mass for destruction.

I was watching a program about rail guns and the thought of a man made meteor like object came to mind.

What do ARFcom scientist and/or skeptics say?

Read some sci fi.

Plenty of workable Kinetic energy weapons hit have hit the planet over the years.  we just call them meteorites.

Rod's From God seems to be the most realistic.  To be honest it's 100% doable with late 1990's technology.

Would it cause the kind of massive shitstorm a nuke base on the moon would have caused to put one in orbit? Probably .  Though I always get a little tinfoil when I heard about an earthquake in Iraq or Afghanistan just before we had a push.

Not possible.  There are treaties that prevent nations from putting weapons in space.

I've given some thought as of late to high-yield devices that would cause EMP wherever desired.  With all the "space junk" and satellites in orbit, it'd be relatively "easy" for a country like China, Russia or the US to put a "satellite" (or several) in orbit, wait for it (or them) to pass by the country of choice, then detonate.  It'd be a lot less noticeable than say, an ICBM.

Just my tin foil 2 cents.

You know, I always wondered if that wasn't some of the point to the race to the moon.  Sneak a few nukes up, fire them from the dark side, and let them fall down the well to the target.  Outside some minor course correction they would be invisible and it would be the greatest sneak attack ever.
