I'm standing on the smoke shelf of the upstairs fireplace, busting out brick and mortar above the smoke chamber of the fireplace in the basement.
The original flue liner to the fireplace downstairs were cracked and both liners had been installed improperly to begin with and were unsuitable for use. We replaced them with a stainless steel liner wrapped in insulation.
We had some problems with this one. If your interested, click on my profile and view my photo album by clicking on "pics".
Anyone buying a new home, don't pay any attention to the home inspectors report concerning the chimney, hire a Certified Chimney Sweep to go out and inspect it first and don't let the seller pay for the inspection!
This homeowner bought this home 6 months ago and ended up forking over another $4,500 to get her chimney fixed!
