My car broke yesterday. Apparently the pcm chip went bad. I had to be towed to repair shop. The shop told me I could save a few bucks if I paid the tower myself rather than them pay him, because they tack on a few extra dollars (35.00) hahaha. So, I asked the tower if he took checks. He told me no checks, cash or credit only. The cash price would be 55.00, the credit price would be 65.00.  I was talking to someone today about this and they told me that was illegal. Can someone tell me if this is true? Can they charge 2 different prices for the same service??

Cash goes in-pocket, credit goes in the books and taxes have to be paid.

Common practice amongst smaller businesses, but highly illegal.

They cannot charge MORE for credit, but CAN give a DISCOUNT if paid with cash, as I understand it.
Yeah, I know it sounds the same, but apparently is not.
This is what many gun shops do.
Go to a show.

Who cares if it is illegal?  Do you think that will change anything about your vehicle, or their business practices?

It is common for companies to give a discount for cash.
