Nothing quite like seeing a (used to be)black-rifle that's well used, dings and all.
Thanks for the pics. |

They need to buy better armor. Those "plate pocket" LBVs seem like an invitation to take nasty, avoidable and potentially fatal dings.

During GW1 I was always looking for a FAL to replace my M16. Jumped and carried a FAL in the desert during one training exercise.

Some people here were ragging on the Green Berets in Afghanistan who grew beards for not looking STRAC. Kind of shook my head at that. "Hey! You enter a stone age country in a state of war, behind enemy lines, risking your life to kill the fuckers who pulled 9/11, you better be clean-shaven, mister! You are disgracing the US Army by your appearance!" Some people actually said words to that effect. |

The 5 minute tank is more likely an "escape unit" similar to the industrial units for allowing a person to leave a contaminated area... such as poison gas, or other chemicals. It is a type of air-fed respirator, a smaller version of the SCBA's used by firemen.
For guys who think they are tough, try being a fireman!!! |

Quoted: What's the deal with all the soldiers holding their weapons with their off-hand wrapped around the mag well? View Quote Almost as good as a verticle foregrip. Allows you to pull the weapon in tighter for more control in rapid close range fire. |

What does the guy with the FAL have on his hip? It looks like a leather holster, but it doesn't look much like a M-9 or 1911. Think maybe he picked up a Markarov and holster as well as the rifle?
|
|
Maybe the guy with the FAL is British or he swapped with the Brits or is working with a Brit unit. I know they don't carry them as standard anymore but I've also seen some bolt actions and M14s in the hands of US soldiers.
As far as the patches go. If you look at the two guys kneeling, they both have velcro on each sleeve at the shoulder. The one has a flag patch on his the other doesn't. It looks like they just stick them on as needed. |

Quoted: What's the deal with all the soldiers holding their weapons with their off-hand wrapped around the mag well? View Quote Better than using a vertical foregrip. Think of the rifle as a big pistol and grip it accordingly. You need gloves to do this, that delta ring gets hot! |

Quoted: I guess if the SEALS are using the 11" barrels some of your past arguments maybe were bunk about not getting one? View Quote Ric, they are using them for CQB during a "visit board search and seizure" (VBSS). The confines of ships are extremely tight, lot's of piping and electrical cable, etc. MP5s and commando style barrels are the norm. Outside of CQB operations the 11.5 is impractical.
