It was a survey, but the end of it there was a question which read "What can the Republican Party do to earn your trust?(Please attach a seperate sheet of paper if you do not have enough space)

So this is what I wrote:

Dear Mr. Steele,

I have immersed myself in the political realm at a young age, not as a game of power, but as a mechanism to preserve and defend liberty and freedom. Those two principles are unarguably, the reason for this country’s greatness and success.

However, in modern times, the Republican party seems to be unable to carry the flag of freedom, liberty and responsibility. I have watched Republicans unite to support things such as the atrocious Medicare prescription drug give-away. I read bills drafted and supported by Republican lawmakers that fleece the taxpayer of their hard earned money so as to secure their office by bringing home government funding.

I am a Goldwater Conservative and a libertarian at heart. When I see the Republican party passing bills that ban online poker, I shake my head in disgust. This isn’t the party of personal responsibility and liberty any more. This party is now the party of socialism-light and nanny state-ism. Instead of emphatically opposing any Democrat created/demanded bill, on principle, they compromise away more rights, either willingly or ignorantly. This demoralizes people like me, because as we work to regain every inch of political ground, we give it back and then some with the help of those who are said to be members of our own party.

Now look at us. We are now backed into a corner with hardly a leg to stand on because we have failed to oppose these incremental infringements in our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

It may seem to some in this party that I am a nutty anarchist, though I am none of the sort. I believe in the rule of law as created by the Constitution and the right to pursue happiness as explained by the Declaration of Independence.

I want taxes low so most of my money can make its way into the economy to improve my life as well as those who partake in the mutual exchange of goods and services. I want laws in place to ensure that a Laissez-faire economy can run smoothly and efficiently. I want those who violate the rights of others (murderers, rapists, thieves, burglars and persons of violent behavior) locked up. I want property rights held in the highest regard and not violated on a whim when tempted by the juicy allure of an increase in the tax base. I want the rights of the individual protected at all costs and not squelched at the request of an angry mob.

Also since I have your ear, Mr. Steele, I have so far been underwhelmed with your performance as chair of the GOP. Your attacks on Rush Limbaugh not only hurt the party, but were stemmed in complete ignorance. People like Rush Limbaugh are the most important mechanism we have in reversing the tide of authoritarian style socialism. Your ill words have me doubting your belief in the principles of Goldwater and Reagan.

This isn’t your only fault. When I learned that you were running as chair of the RNC, I learned that you have an unfavorable attitude toward the Second Amendment. When asked about “assault weapons” you said: “Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that.”

I find your view of the Second Amendment lacking in the foundations as created by the Founding Fathers. James Madison, the father of the Constitution, eloquently wrote throughout the Federalist Papers about the need of an armed populous, not only in defense of foreign aggressors, but in the defense of freedom and liberty from those who reside domestically

Throughout the course of history, it has been proven over and over again that a nation that is disarmed will fall prey to despotism. I urge you to do some serious soul searching and meditation with regards to this subject as the Second Amendment has as much to do with hunting, as the First Amendment has to do with pornography.

I appreciate your willingness and open mind to hear and hopefully listen to what those of us in the real world have to say and what is on our minds. These are precious times and I can’t say that I am optimistic about what the future holds. This nation has seen its share of hard times, and during those periods, there have always been leaders ready to step up and show Americans the correct way out of dire straits. I hope history continues to repeat itself in this regard.

Best wishes and much success!

Respectufully,

It was a letter asking for money with an attached survey where it asked me for my comments. I just wrote this and will put it in the mail tomorrow. I have no response from Steele yet, but will eagerly await one which will be promptly posted as soon as I get it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Good thinking for staying respectful and polite. That can only help our cause.

I sent him an e-mail that, in a nutshell, said, "NO MORE GUN CONTROL, PERIOD..."

Never got a reply.

It'll go into the shredder, along with all the other letters that didn't jive with what they were going to do anyways..

A few style and spelling touches, nothing that changes any of your points or the general message. I won't take offense if you say no, but I'm just trying to help the cause.

This is what I sent back to Mike:

Dear Michael,

Congratulations on your new position. For the last couple of years I have been throwing unopened materials from the RNC in the trash. I have either not been answering calls or have asked to be removed from the calling list of the RNC when calls come in. I don't really know why I opened this survey today, but I did. Maybe it is because I saw an old friend that I had not seen in over twenty five years today. That friend has become a "looney toon liberal".

The fact that you have to send out a survey to find out what is right and what is wrong with the Republican Party says it all and pisses me off to the bone. Deciding the right track to take from a survey is something that a "looney toon liberal" organization would do. It's time for the RNC to "grow a pair" and do what has always been the right thing. I should not have to tell you what that is.

Don't come to me looking for money or support until you have accomplished this simple task. All politicians should have paid more attention in History class at school. There is a point beyond which people will not be pushed, just ask the British.

Good luck. I really wish you well. I will look forward to the day that I can once again support the Republican Party.

Sincerely,

The survey is more about a not so glib way of asking for money, when what they should be asking for are rational ideas.

I just basically told them that they'll get no more of my money until they get their act together.

Someone will have to read it. If I don't do anything, then I really have no right to complain now can I?
