So I finally got to go Spelunking this weekend.  My friend and I left out on Saturday morning and got back late Sunday night.  We camped at a nearby site...and overall we had a great time.

Only bad thing was we had a few too many beers and forgot to put our food away before we went to sleep.  Damn racoons stole my food.  Needless to say...I was hungry when I got back.  My bad.  Here are a few pictures.

Langdon's Cave

Main entrance crawl.  Approx. 2-3 feet of headspace.

Me obviously having way too much fun.

My buddy Steve sitting on a ledge...about a 20-25 foot drop below him.

Formations

Mauk's Cave

Main Entrance

Cave Wildlife

Crawl Space

Pit 4 of 4

Pit 3 of 4 (Pain in the ass because there are no holds approx. 9 feet deep)

Sorry for the poor quality pictures.  It's hard to take decent pictures in total darkness with these cheap digital cameras.

At the end of the day we were both a muddy mess...and it was one of the most fun trips i've been on in a long time.

Very cool, and you're braver than I am, but you might want to resize those pics for those of us who don't have 35" monitors.

Resized them...but I think they are still a little too large.  Sorry guys.

Nope sure haven't...people kept asking me that.  Is it any good?  I assume it's about caves.

If you guys take a look at the pictures entitled "Crawl Space" you will notice a shinny object under my friends right leg at the knee level.  His knife fell out without our knowledge and he got stabbed in the side of his hip as he continued downward.  Not a bad cut...but could have been worse.  Good thing I had my first aid kit with me.

Did you see any humanoid bat-mutant people? (Descent)

Makes me claustrophobic just looking at it.

Big, black holes scare me....and I blame this entirely on my prom date.

Only two of you went? Not a good idea.

Four people (minimum) is generally the rule when caving. If someone gets hurt, someone can stay behind while the other two go for help.

Contact a local caving club and learn to cave correctly...and safely.

IM me and I'll be glad to steer you in the right direction.

What's the minimum number?

Only time I've gone, it was three of us.

Four is best. If someone gets hurt, one person can stay with the victim while the other two go for help.

Yes it was only two of us that went.  We filled out the proper permits which let everyone know where we were and exactly what time we should be out of the cave.  Not the best...but the best I could do at the time.

While there we both joined the Harrison/Crawford County Groto.  We bumped into the Vice President and he was very helpful with information.  They do caving trips once or twice a month as groups.  He also owns a sporting goods store with a "Spelunking" section.  Sells the items to members at cost.  Pretty cool.

Looks fun.  I have only been caving once, way back in Jr. High.  It was a lot of fun and I ahve always wanted to go again.

I used to go caving at Chimney My in the Adirondacks. Great times. Some of the holes we went into were knid of small so I'm not sure I could get into them anymore . Also I was always amazed at the ice in the caves when you got deep enough.
