...in my garage and take a long weekend it might kill all the ghost ants that have infested the garage walls. Worth it, or should I just call Terminix?

ETA: Popular suggestion is that fire will also kill ants. Google says that if I mix iron oxide and aluminum powder together, I can use that to burn the ants out.

If you purposely do that and someone breaks into your house and dies, you are going to prison.  Enjoy your vacation.

Misnomer.  They are just like regular ants, but without a serial number.

Try it.
Just set up a lawn chair in the garage, have a seat and watch all the fun.

Or you could call a pest control company, have them tent the building and pump it full of cyanide - that seems to be what they do in the tropics.

IIRC, Ohio has the flattest interstate.  No more than 3% over the entire road (Turnpike - I-76 & I-80/90)

You would need some remote way to mix it because the reaction is damn fast. The free chlorine will gas out immediately and it's very toxic. I got chlorine gased about 27 years ago when a gas bottle ruptured at a pool. It was awful!!!

If op is foolish enough to try this, I hope he has a garage door opener at a minimum.  I would think some fan ventilation would be warranted as well, but good luck not dying getting it turned on when you get home.

How are you planning to get the stuff mixed up and garage closed without inhaling fumes?

Demon WP kills everything and is cheap, even that deserves respect and proper handling.

a quicker way to kill the ants would be to pour equal portions of sufuric acid, nitric acid, and glycerine into a large glass jar, then shake it up vigorously, for a few minutes. this is the ultimate ant killer. or is it nitro-glycerine? i don't remember, so post back your results.

but seriously, don't do it. maybe. or not. just don't.

It might. At the very least it will make them run away.
I thought "fire" was the go-to answer for all pest problems.

It's worth a try...

Besides destroying your lungs, chlorine gas is corrosive and will destroy steel, iron and aluminum objects in your garage.

So, just to be clear, chlorine bleach plus ammonia will combine to create a toxic gas for humans.

A little dramatic, no?  It's not like looking at chlorine gas is going to kill you.

get a sundstrom mask and organic gas filter from HD for $50, stay close to a door. Plenty of time to mix, place and move, before there is enough chlorine gas to start burning your eyes.

Bunch of ninnies.

Still, call pest control. The need to google basic chemistry says you should.
