[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Snake!!!! (Page 1 of 2)
Why do people feel the need to kill an animal which can happily coexist along with you/your family/animals and pose no danger at all....even confer some benefit to your home by eliminating pests, such as mice capable of damaging property. |
You will never, ever, EVER receive rebuke from Ol' Ninja for killing a creepy, slithering, horrifying snake, SP1. I've gotten the ARFCOMPETA crowd after me, too. Screw a buncha snakes. |
Yeah, it was totally harmless/non-aggressive. i just tossed it in the woods behing my house. |
Nature (or the Creator if U prefer) has a plan for everything. Kill the snakes and you'll have more mice. Kill the jellowjackets and you get webworms in the pecan trees etc. |
|
Looks like a rat or egg snake. Leave it be. Will help kill bugs and rodents around the house. If you look the nose is rounded which usually means it's not poisonous. I see snakes like that all the time around here. King snakes are my favorite though, seen one take out a big mean Cottonmouth a while back. We used to have a bunch of them around, they helped clean out the other unwanted snakes. |
Well, if it's late at night, dark, you have your neighbor freaking out over a snake you can't identify, no husband around to help...I'm going to kill it. Especially if I'm wondering if it's a cottonmouth from the lake across the street. One less snake in the world isn't going to put the slithering population into near extinction. Geeeeez. |
What is a jello jacket and are they ok to eat? they sound good...I'm hungry |
No No NO. You got your priorities all screwed up Let the neighbor continue to freak out and watch the show, You having a good laugh will do wonders for your disposition. Your neighbor may not appreciate too many people dragging over lawn chairs while he/she is screaming on top of the car. |
|
The only snake with a rounded head in North America that IS poisonous is a coral snake..They have big assed colored stripes and they live only in Florida IIRC... Leave Mr. Snake alone....Non poisonous snakes are cool It's the venemous ones that I could care less about going extinct... |
|
I'd guess it's a Rat or Corn Snake. Best thing to do is leave it alone, from the pic it looks to be aroune 3' long? It'll eat every mouse and rat it finds... I had a black rat snake as a pet for several years (before releasing it into the wild again) and it would eat 7-10 small mice at a time. It's hard to tell though, there are like 45 non-venomous snakes in GA and the colors vary widely. |
ever see the Australian mice infestation problem? |
I've seen it on television. Just the thought of how many snakes could breed with that large a food supply sends shivers down my spine. Besides, cats eat mice and are way cuter than snakes anyways. |
No its not a breed of Garter Snake. They are similar to a Garter snake in that they are a non constricting Colubrid. They do not make a good pet. Hard to feed and they stink (shit on you when they get picked up). They primarily feed on slugs and those are hard to catch in the winter time. ![]() If you want a pet snake for the kids, then you need a Corn Snake. Early to take care of, easy to feed, very tame, cheap to obtain, and no smell. |
Because killing stuff is fun. Snake tastes like chicken. |
I stand corrected! Sorry, but it was late and I didn't get the color or scale right. It's a Decay snake all right, Scottyryan nailed it They are similar to a Garter but much smaller.....actually the size of large worms, hence the robin attack. Also, much too timid and musky to make good pets. My bad.

Subsitute "cat" for "snake", and some of the same people that lament the death of the snake will be singing a ballad calling for the death of the cat.................. And I know that snake isn't anyone's pet. www.thatvideosite.com/view/2717.html Snakes on a plane...................... |
Cotton Mouths and Copperheads meet Mr. Shovel if they are in my back yard where the kids play. Non-poisonous snakes get a pass. If they are someplace other than my backyard, all snakes get a pass. |
Great food supply for our lovely snakes :). I hate mice |
Sounds like that's it. it was 12in long at best and I found it up against the slab of my house. I have never heard of a Decay Snake. |
|
Mice, and other little fuzzy invading mammals can be trapped or killed and I can get close to them without the urge to climb onto a table. I can come across a mouse or other little fuzzy thing while working in the yard, and it's a non-issue. I don't like snakes. Snakes die on sight. I don't mind killing the stuff the snake would eat. If a mouse gets in the house he gets trapped. I don't like snakes in my yard, and I do NOT want one of them creepy things getting into my house. I'd be likely to start shooting holes in my floor with a shotgun. As damaging as mice can be, I'll do a lot more damage to the house a lot faster if a snake gets inside.
|
No kidding! What's with those type of people anyway? My save the Rattle Snake campaign |
We have them here, too....both kinds. Venomous and non. I can't believe how many of ya's is skeered of snakes. They are extremely beneficial creatures. Especially the venomous ones. I just helped relocate a Mojave Rattlesnake on site the other day. Folks absolutely FLIPPED when I grabbed it by the tail and flung it out from between pallets so that I wouldn't lose it. What can I say? I'm a closet redneck..... ![]() ( p.s. I have been handling snakes for years...longer than I have been handling firearms....do NOT try this at home, you are NOT Steve Irwin! ) |
