| My Honda lawn mower says to use API label SJ oil. Is is okay to use synthetic SJ in this engine or do I need to stick to real oil? The engine has about 50 hours on it. |

Yes you can, but do you want to? In my opinion, depending on where the engine operates, I think you should change small engine oil frequently. If you're mowing a well manicured lawn with no dirt spots you can go farther between oil changes than you can if you're knocking down weeds where there's lots of dirt and rocks. But either way, with the mower blade kicking up dust I'd want as clean of oil as I can get. Honda makes a nice small engine; I'd try to maintain it.
On the other end is the Wally World Special with the Briggs & Stratton cheapie engine made in China with tolerances to the hundredths of an inch... Those I'd just fill with gas and then change the mower at the end of the season. |

yes ETA-But if you do use synthetic, you should continue to use it from here on out, don't go back to non synthetic. Meh, you can switch at any time... Thats sort of a line of BS much like a shotgun is best home defence weapon... There are dino and syn blended oils on the market such as Motorcraft, Valvoline durablend, etc.... |
| I cut the grass about every 5 days so it is never very tall. Kept the lawn down to about 10,000 square feet because we just don't have enough water here to keep it real green. I change the oil every other month and keep the air filter clean. Is there an advantage to synthetic in an air cooled motor vs real oil? |
