I have a Sharps repro similar to the one in my avatar.

It's single shot. It's impressive to sling 520gr lead pills over black powder at a crowded range. Sounds like a cannon and makes a huge cloud of smoke.

High speed 40gr Vmax messes up Jack Rabbits.

$100 Rummage sale treasure, needed a firing pin.  Stevens 14 1/2 Little scout. I replaced the firing pin & refinished the stocks.  Shoots well enough to enjoy.

Ya, them single shots.....not much good when you can't hit a prairie dog....

Or perhaps...fling some lead at an Elk at a mile.  My son in WY with a 300WSM.  No he didn't try to make a kill shot, he chose to simply hit a rock about 100yd up hill from a bedded herd, just to see if he could make the shot.

I have a very old J. Stevens Arms & Tool company single shot .22lr.

It has a period Lyman peep rear sight and a wafer thin brass blade front sight.

The metal is all brown now but the bore is bright and the rifling is crisp.  It is a hoot to shoot.

I would guess it dates to about 1910-1915 or so.

Slap a reflex sight on top, load up some ammo and go make great big holes in stuff.

May work out for your intended usage. Do recommend that, if possible, you handle one prior to buying to see if the balance/feel is within expected.

The single shot version of the 69 and 72 was the 47, which was probably the best single shot Winchester made.  The 67A was a "boy's rifle" and was cheaper, and the 55 "single shot automatic" was an interesting but weird design.

The 69A could be fed from a box mag, but mine has a factory single-shot adapter.  My grandfather bought it from a friend in the 30's with the adapter installed.  It hasn't had a magazine in almost 80yrs.
