1. Go to the beach
2. Pretend that you're drowning
3. Have her rescue you (don't fuck this up and actually drown and don't inadvertently drown her)
4. Have her perform mouth to mouth
5. Abandon ship if a male life guard runs up to save your life

coffee or drinks during happy hour.  NO DINNER!  Not only can that be expensive, it takes a long time and if you or the girl wants to GTFO, you are kinda stuck...

Coffee house for snack and coffee, then walk in a park, visit the zoo or a mutually agreed upon museum, flower show, air show (Labor Day Weekend) local fair, etc.  Find out what she likes, what is going on around town for a limited time, then go fo it

Another option I like is going shooting.  It's a quick way to weed out the possible keepers and no way in hell dates.

Depends. If it's someone you don't know at all, I like to start off with coffee. Very low pressure, she's unlikely to flake, and gives you a cheap out if she's inflicted with the boyfriend diseases. Then I like to go to a bar/tapas/sushi place for no. 2 - not a full sit down fancy resturant, but you get the idea, somewhere cool. Then let it flow from there. Cooking her dinner is a GREAT idea. If you don't know how to cook, learn.

ETA: Coffee also covers you for non-drinkers and to a lesser extent, Mormons.

I took my sons ak47 and ammo on a first date, in case we couldn't figure out what to do.   Was a great conversation started in a lull.

non-alcoholic drinks (smoothie, icee, slushee, milkshake, etc) and a walk around a local lake.

Casual + bonus points for water at night.... You guys can talk OR decide to go do something else.

If you don;t know how to cook, its a great starter "Hey, I have this roast, but no idea how to cook it.  Want to show me how?  Gives you guys time to talk while its baking.

+1

Also, don't stress about getting the date 100% perfect. When I was younger and less self-confident, I freaked out and didn't follow up with girls whose numbers I'd got, etc. etc., because I couldn't think of a decent date idea. If she likes you, she'll probably enjoy anything, and if she doesn't, well, no amount of crazy fun maddness will change her mind.

The great man Swingset once said: you cannot force a woman to like you. Your actions (with obvious exceptions for BSC stuff) are not going to change her feelings on you.

Great idea, especially if you have a female friend or two in your team that can put the good word in while you're in the loo.

I've found "lunch dates" to be good first dates

You'll each have to get back to work or get to weekend errands if you choose to go on a weekend so there's now awkwardness (you got a post date "out")

During lunch you can tell her all about your job

Go for a running first date.  Will weed out the fatties that can't even huff out a mile.

I actually did this and it worked out great for me.  Plus I got a run in.

Eat lunch some where, I dislike coffee so no coffee shops for me. Eat some where the is is quick so if don't work out you get the hell out of dodge. Like a Mexican grill type place as an example.

Also shows always seem to work well for me, like plays, opera, or comedy.

don't do the same old, Go to a comedy show. Get her laughing and comfortable then go to a place where you can grab a bite to eat that is completely informal but not a chain restaurant.

Ones I've used:

Afternoon coffee/drinks that can turn into dinner.

Sneak into SeaWorld.

Go on a tour off the USS Midway (replace with local equivalent). "oh, what's that nextdoor? A fancy-as-fuck restaurant? Drinks at sunset overlooking the bay?"

Pistol range with .22s.

fuck that.....booze costs too much to waste on some chick you may never see again. call her on the phone and see how long you can find things to talk about. if call lasts for one hour+, she may be someone to see again. put her on speaker phone and play video games(with sound off) until she gets interesting.

This sounds hellish for the average 1st shift person.  Most women I know take a little extra time to put themselves together for a date, so they're going to have to get up extra, extra early compared normal, which is sure to classically condition them against you.

Use her brain chemistry as ally.   Take her to an amusement park, or any activity that involves perceived danger.   Adrenalin rush, dopamine release and proximity can mimic the feeling of falling love.  It's science.

Be different than all the rest of the guys and take her to do something that she'll think is really fun. Try a dance class or cooking class. It works great and will take the pressure off you from keeping her entertained with stimulating conversation for 2 or 3 hours.
