This.  Mining companies are closing because they can't make money.  Buy what you can now because when the dollar is dumped as the world's reserve currency, like chickens they come home to roost and those holding dollars lose big time.

Buying noob quantities of precious metals is almost a guaranteed loser idea.  You will pay a dealer's markup, and end up with some shiny objects that will never pay interest or dividends.

You would be better off getting into a stock index fund or just buying good firearms.

PM's are still overvalued.  We may not see '97 pricing come back, but its still got a lot of room to go down.

As long as uncle cheddar is printing dollars from thin air, I'll still have a hedge of something other than dollars.  That being said, the vast majority of the money I invest does go into the stock market.

Lear Capital is so sure that gold prices will double by the end of the year that they're willing to sent a free 1g silver bar, worth about $0.75, just for calling.  But hurry, it's only the first fifty callers.

Man, how can Lear Capital afford to stay in business, giving away $30 of silver for free???

Also, they've been playing that commercial for at least eight months.  Apparently they haven't been doing better than 4 calls a week.  Must have some bored people at the phones.

if I remember economics, ceterus parabus means "all things being equal"

pretty sure there was some significant inflation/dollar printing between the start of your graph and now

it may well go lower but I don't think you could fuck up by buying now if you plan to hold

If you want to have something so that you can have it, then yes, buying when the price drops is a good strategy.

If you want to have something so it can give you a good return on the price you paid, maybe not.

Just buy silver halves in bulk.  1964 and previous.   They sell slightly above spot.

Most people could spot a counterfeit US coin, compared to a counterfeit silver Eagle.

Plus the counterfeiters usually make collectable stuff that's more valuable than a worn 1964 half dollar.

you could always try mining for it

I've been through thousands of dollars worth of half dollars and found nary a thing but I've also gotten $20 worth and 3/4 of it was 90 or 40%

worth a shot if you're bored

also fun to spend some of it, had a postal employee (Surpise, surprise) ask me how much one was worth while trying to buy a stamp with it

But it has industrial uses! ...and the gold silver ratio! ....and SHTF barter!
You'll be sorry when silver hits $500/oz soon!

This year I've been focusing on buying dividend paying stocks with a low P/E - and all the while seeing the silver price slide and thinking "maybe I should get some of that" but not really doing it.

Maybe now is the last chance to load up on silver before it all goes to hell - but on the other hand it can't hurt to have other investments in the event that we don't see a return of the Dark Ages. Investments that will wind up paying off significantly more if civilization keeps on grinding away.

Hedge your hedge with collectables and gathering full sets.  Kooks, bird of prey series, pandas (although not as rare as the used to be), zombucks, America the beautiful series, etc.

Stashing away maples and eagles isn't worth it at this point, IMO.
