Hello ladies!  I have a question about shampoo for you.  I have been trying for some time to find a shampoo that will take care of my dry, flakey scalp, but I have been unsuccessful.  I’ve tried a whole bunch of different brands including Head & Shoulders, Neutrogena, Herbal Essences, Suave, Selsun Blue, Paul Mitchell etc.

I end up having the same problem with all of them though.  They work great for about 3-4 weeks, then for some reason they flat out quit working.  It’s like my scalp develops some kind of immunity to them or something.  My hair still gets clean, but the flakes and itchiness starts within a few hours of taking a shower.

Do any of you know why I might be having this problem, or is there some other shampoo I could try?  Thanks!

you might just try using shampoo only every other day or just 2-3 times a week. use conditioner only on the days that you do not use shampoo. Sounds like your scalp and hair is really dried out.

There's a fungus among us.  Fungus & yeasts are a PITA to get rid of.

Reduce the yeast and sugar in your diet.

Increase your essential fatty acids by taking an Omega 6 or Evening Primrose supplement.

Try Tea tree oil shampoo - it's antifungal.  I hear 5% is what you want.

I know this is the ladies forum, but I have to add something if I may.

How hot of a shower do you take?  Too hot of a shower will dry out the scalp because the hot water causes many of the natural oils in the scalp to be washed away.

Just a thought.

Carry on.

There are other causes of this.  Check into medical conditions that cause this.

Have you tried any of the T/Gel shampoos by Neutrogena?

Aveda also has a Scalp Benefits line that might help.

Your hair is adapting to the shampoo you use.  Keep two or three kinds in the shower and switch it up every few showers so your scalp doesn't get immune to it.  Also, taking a shower in cooler temperature water should help.  Good luck.

I'm using a Tea Tree oil one now by Paul Mitchell that my wife picked up at a hair salon a little while ago.  I'm not sure how much Tea Tree oil is in it though, but it seemed to be working pretty well up until last week.

Pretty hot.

I used one called something like T/Sal by Neutrogena several months ago.  I have not heard of Aveda though.

Thank you for all the help so far.  I will check out the links tomorrow when I have some more time.

Before you drop extra $$ on expensive shampoo's, give taking a cooler shower a try.  I suspect this is your problem.
