Why hasn't the US imploded yet? Just wondering

(Quoted the devil herself saying that her job would lose dignity if she took a paycut with the sequester today, and it got me thinking)
ETA: Mild dose of sarcasm in the above text, while also wondering what people see the effects being to them locally

I havent noticed anything, other than its obvious that the best 68 billion dollars the U.S. has been spending was the best bang for our buck. Where the hell is the other two trillion dollars going is what im wondering.
