it lets you reach under to release the 5th wheel and stay clear of the gobs of grease all over everything on the bottom of the trailer/top of the 5th wheel area of the tractor,

Also works to extend your reach, when straps tossed over to secure load, have failed to make it over the edge of load.

Also handy when tossing and securing canvas and poly tarps over load.

According to Amazon it is called a 5th wheel pull hook. Kind of a simple name for a simple part.

And if you hold it out the driver's window by the hook end it makes a great mallet for impromptu games of trucker polo down at the truck stop!

Very handy for pulling the release handle on the trailer tandems (axles) to allow shifting their position for properly balancing the trailer weight.  That ensures you will be legal when you pass through any weigh stations along your route.

Of course, if you're stuck with an old POS trailer, you need a crowbar and a length of chain to pull out some of the rusted, crusty tandem release handles found on that old junk  I had a 4 foot long, 1 inch square bar that I used.  I would pivot the bar on the side of the trailer to pull the chain I ran between the bar and the handle.  And I bent that MF-er about 20 degrees on one of the old POS Wabash trailers we hauled.

I have one of the Happy Hookers left over from my trucking days, and I use it to move ammo cans around underneath the bed I have them stashed under.
