Does anyone own one of these overpriced scooters? There was all this hype a few years ago and I have yet to actually see anyone on one. Funny link about them: Clicky

I've tried one out. Little tricky at first but you can be cruising in a few minutes. Trick is to *not* try and balance yourself. If you try to balance, the thing will just shake back and forth.

Cost is $5,000

There was a kid(no older than 14) rolling down the street on one a few weeks ago. Pissed me off because there was a sidewalk, but he was on the road. So when I passed him and pulled out to give him plenty of room but when I was right next to him I did half-ass swerve in his direction, not enough to even come close to hitting him, and he almost fell off. It was damn funny. I hate all the rich kids around here. 16 year olds driving around in the Escalades, BMWs, Mercedes, and Lexus that mommy and daddy bought them blaring the rap music...just bugs me.

You are truly a moron.  What  if the kid had suddenly made a mistake and ended up under your wheels?  He's a minor for God's sake!  Kids do stupid shit...like ride their bikes, scooters, trikes and big wheels in the street!  Weren't you ever a kid...or have you simply forgotten?

Go somewhere else and play with your toys little boy.  Your imbicilic envy is showing.

So for 5 grand you get something you could have gotten for <1 if you got rid of all the bullshit and added a third wheel.

You ought to take that to heart and start doing the resume, any company where the cost is not an option, has got very few months left in it.  Better to be the first to go (on your own terms), than the last.

As to teh Segway, I wish I could find a use for oen, they do look cool.

Nope. It's not. For the company it's about having something your competitors do not have. We worked really hard with the folks from Segway to get them before they became available on Amazon.com. In fact, we had them, and were demonstrating their possible applications to clients approx. a year before.

KPD had one at crab fest this year . I don't know if they bought it , or it was a donation . I know Segway donated a bunch to Alaska Police units for marketing/testing .
I have to admit it looks goofy as all hell , and it was a good chuckle watching him put put around thruough the crowds . It needs a light bar though .

I was chillin at a Pizza place downtown one nice day, so I was eating outside with a group of dudes from work. As we're enjoying our meal this yuppy douche bag rolls up on one of these things and parks it next to us. He hops off and tells us to look after his ride. Mind you he doesnt ASK, he TELLS us to look after it. We should have jacked that thing or trashed it after he went inside.

Only one I've seen on the road is owned by a 60+ year old guy.  It's pretty cool but way over-priced IMO.  Post Office was testing them which could be a money saver.

I see your point. Let me clarify. In the end, Yes, it IS about money. You can't be successful without it. However, you need to spend some to make some. In the purchasing of 3 segway HT's, we may have "wasted" ~$15000, but it was not looked at as such. As Bulldog1967 said, "cost was not an issue." It wasn't. It was about ROI.  When responding to "Money is ALWAYS an issue" by FellintoOblivion, I said "Nope. It's not." I meant it's not always about the cost of an investment, if you believe it will produce a profit. We have a specific budget for such purchases, and that segway investement was but a grain of sand in the bucket. If a $15000 purchase provides a means for a $25M contract, then I would say it was money well spent. Much more money that "could [be] used for other things like raises or bonuses."

So in the end YES, money is always an issue, but not necessarily the initial cost one spends on an investment, which gives them the upper hand against the competition.

And I am sure that is very comforting news for all the Olds employees who lost their jobs as a result of the division closure...

BTW, I picked the Olds example because it's a name most recognize. Plenty of 90+ year old companies go out of business every year. I would like to see the ROI justification on the Segways at Bulldog's company. If you want to waste $5k on one, fine. When a company wastes $5k on one (or $15k on three), perhaps the shareholders should expect some kind of return from their investment?
