Damn I hate these things. I got one on the back of my head a few years ago and now think one's growing under my chin. How much pain involved is there in getting these things cut out? I feel like a lumpy old dog. |

First of all ... yuck. Second of all, my girlfriend's brother had a number of these things removed from his head last month. He got them, in part, from always wearing a hat. So, what's the schmuck do as soon as he gets home from the doctor? Yeah. Puts on a hat. Idiot. |
What amazes me is how long that person let that thing grow!!! I'd have been to the dermatologist a darn sight sooner than that!

He should put that up for bid on EBay. |

I had one on my back (right sholuder blade area). Had no idea what it was, just that it was bugging the hell out of me off and on. I thought it was just some sort of insect bite. Went to bed one night, woke up the next morning with blood on the sheets. Some mirror jiggling in the bathroom revealed a nasty seeping infection (and a pretty big bulge). Didn't have insurance at the time so went to the walk-in care place. Doc took one look at it and confirmed infected cyst. He started poking around it, squeezing (hurt like a mofo). Suddenly I hear an "Oh crap!" from behind me and the pressure stopped. Turned around to see most of the cyst plastered on the doc's face and glasses. Thing had exploded like a chest burster coming out when he was probing it. I apologized (have no idea why), he said it was his own damn fault. He packed the wound and put a stitch or 2 in to hold it. Never really healed correctly but it doesn't bug me. I have another on my chest. It was pretty small for a few years and then suddenly got bigger. Doc (different one) said they do that sometimes, nothing to worry about. It's a bit of nuisance since it's in an area with just pretty much skin against bone. Any pressure on it puts it into my rib and it hurts like a bitch. Not going to bother with it unless it gets worse. |
If you put it between two Ritz and smashed them together do you think it might be enough for a mini sandwitch or would I need another one, gotta have the filling right out to the edge ya know.

One of the things I like about GD is that it reinforces the fact than we are more alike than different. Think you're the only one to think a particular way or have a weird problem? Come here and find out that we are (for the most part) in the same boat. |
offer to cut it out for him, I'd do it. |

I had one of those on the back of my neck for years. Mine was a little bit bigger than that one and I on occasion would lance the thing with a razor and squeeze the crap out of it. The procedure would take forever and usually came out like cheese spread and talk about stink Holy mother of God it was bad. Then I would have this big saggy piece of skin on my neck where it had been. I'm not sure which looked worse. I finally got sick of the thing and had the Doc take it out. They gave me a general and I was in and out quite a bit. I remember asking the Doc if he was done yet and when he said no telling him to hurry up. One time I woke up and exclaimed that "There will be NO FUCKING cursing in here Dammit!" and back out I went. I don't know what that stuff was but man it sure was good! I did apologize to the Doc after the recovery but I don't think he thought too highly of me after that. |

I've had one of those cysts on my chest going on 32 years. Noticed it when I was 16 years old. It would get filled up real big (took about 4 weeks or so) and I would squeeze the shit out of it until it "pops". It never goes away, though. In another month it comes back... "pop". The "substance" is white and waxy and smells like something died and sat out in the sun for days. I'd like to get it removed but I have such beautiful skin I don't want to scar it (OK... I'm a chickenshit and I've been squeezing it over 30 years so I might as well keep on squeezing). Lawdog |
| I get them on my head I guess I have had 4. The first one was removed when I hit it full force on the door frame and it popped, god that hurt. And when one towards my forhead on my scalp, got big enough to get annoying while brushing I had it removed along with another. I still have one but the doc didn't remove it at the time saying it was too small and difficult to remove. Having them removed consisted of a little local and a couple of minutes with one stitch. |

I had one when I was in the Service. The Navy Docs would not touch it.It was on my back and started to get bigger and bigger. Finally came home on leave and had a civvie Dermatologist take it out.Mine looked like that but was bigger and had spikes coming out of it.Nasty M'Fer! It left a big ass scar on my back to! |

I have a very small one on my lower back. Doc told me two years ago it would probably turn into a pimple and go away but I'm still waiting. It hasn't grown and it doesn't bother me so I don't bother it Now I had a ganglion cyst removed from my wrist several years ago... now that thing was huge |

I had one in the skin of my eyelid. Got it cut out as soon as I saw something was puffier than usual. They flipped my eyelid inside out and cut it out with a scalpel, then they got a red hot soldering iron looking device and cauterized the wound. I felt the crispyness of the wound on the inside of my eyelid for about a week. No scar on the outside of my eyelid. |
Probably a pilonidal cyst. I had a small string of those removed when I was 18, a mere three weeks before beginning at NAPS. Entered the Navy with a hole at the base of my spine that was three inches long, over an inch wide, and down to the bone. Ouched like a bitch doing situps on it. I had a cyst of some kind smack in the middle of my chest until earlier this year. I figured since the ones back aft had been caused by ingrown hairs, then so should this one. So I started yanking at all the hairs in the area, and lo and behold I pulled one that was curled into an itty bitty ball. END OF PROBLEM, thank God! |
|
No that is not a sebacouss cyst. It is a Piloniddal Abcess. I Know i had one lanced about 3 months ago. I it is not gone, but it is not infected right now either. Doctor drained about a cup of nasty shit out of it. nasty nasty nasty. |

The substance is actually keratin, like your nails are made from. Very little is sebum. To remove the cyst, the physician must remove the entire sac or it will grow back. It can be difficult and they'll tell you that it might come back since there's no way to be 100% sure. I had one very deep between my neck and shoulder, but it never bothered me. I did decide one day to take an 18 ga. needle to it and that was kind of a mistake. I went to the derm and the sac was removed, plus I have a nasty scar, not that I care. |

I'd have been to the dermatologist a darn sight sooner than that!
