Who on here when you buy a new or used car the first thing you do is turn off the
fucking seat belt Chime.

I always buy fords so its as easy as buckling and  unbuckling 3 times in a row.

But it is the first thing I do after buying

You guys are just trying to make me look like an idiot in the parking lot, aren't you?

Honk "Shave and a Haircut" on the horn, roll the window down, turn lights on, turn lights off, buckle and unbuckle while singling "Happy Birthday," roll the window up, open the door, tap the brakes three times, left turn signal for four blinks, then right turn signal for five...  Rats, that was one blink too many.  Back to the start.  Honk "Shave and a Haircut..."

COOL

I've never heard of that,  but I've ringed out the wires going to the seatbelt with a volt/ohm meter and figured out which wires short together when the seatbelt is connected.

( be SUPER careful, newer cars also have airbag wiring going to the seat ! ! ! )

then I carefully pin thru them with a diaper pin to short them together,  wrap the whole mess in electrical tape and when I sell the vehicle,  I simply removed the diaper pin.

Is there a software/ menu way to shut up Honda or Toyota,  my wife's mini-van is like nails on a chalk-board.

I wear my seatbelt when I'm on pavement but I don't when I get on dirt roads. It is much easier to bail out of the truck and shoot a jack rabbit or coyote if the opportunity presents itself. I hate the damn seatbelt dinger. I drive a 2002 Chev that doesn't have a dinger but it is good to know that you can turn the thing off on some newer vehicles.

I haven't driven offroad much, but I'd think a seatbelt would help, right?  Far more bumps and such to jostle you around in the cab?

20k acres with gates all over the place, stopping to shoot coyotes, check calves, break ice on water tanks, etc, etc.

Nothing would ever get done because we would clicking and unclicking all day.

If I worked on a ranch or something, I'd disable it (bucking and unbuckling all the time would get on my nerves).

But on my cars? I've never bothered. I always have my seat belt on, so it's a non-issue. And if I'm just backing down the driveway to move my car, the chime doesn't bother me.

I do this because I can.

(Subaru is harder than a Ford to do this with apparently. I did 30 buckles/unbuckles as fast as I can to permanently turn mine off.)

I silenced my Honda Civic's by going on EBay and getting small seat belt extenders. It's a small buckle that snaps into the locking end of the seatbelt. The buckle snaps into the extender.

No more chime.

I put a new head unit in my Trailblazer. The special adapter to keep the OnStar working was over $100 and I don't use that shit anyways.

I asked my friend what would happen if I didn't put that in and he said you lose OnStar obviously, an your door chime/seat belt chime won't work anymore.

Soooo, $100 to keep my seat belt chime? No thanks.

Just wear the seatbelt.

Or for those of you talking about driving around your property, pull the seatbelt behind your seat and buckle it in.  Silences chime, doesn't tether you to the seat.

I'm going to avoid a newer vehicle for as long as I can find reliable older ones.  Good to know that there's a way to turn things like that off.  I was hoping that when the time came I'd be able to rig a way around it.

I disable the chime in my truck because I'm not going to wear my seatbelt driving across my property at 5 mph or while backing my boat down a ramp and the chime is annoying as hell.  I haven't driven down the road without a seatbelt on in almost 30 years.  Even so I don't want to listen to the damn chime when I decide I don't need a seatbelt at times when it's inconvienient and doesn't make sense to wear it.

My 2000 Ford requires that technique to disable Belt Minder. I wear my seat belt all the time, but sometimes you want to start the car and let it warm up in the winter. Or you are fixing something and need to run the engine for a few minutes. That DING DING DING DING, every 2 seconds gets annoying.

I would kill to know how to do this with '07 and later Toyotas.  You can't put anything in the passenger seat, or the car will make you want to drive into a damn brick wall just to shut up the stupid alarm that thinks there's someone's sitting there.
I don't want my car to make a peep unless something is malfunctioning.   There is zero need for all the stupid startup chirping that every car in America does.  They complain about it often on Top Gear whenever they review an American car.

I'll give them a pass on the keys-in-ignition and the left-your-headlights-on chirps, but that's it. (and that only needs to be a quick chirp, not a constant tone).  Otherwise, I just want it to shut up unless there is an alarm condition.

Here's the procedure for my Ranger (also works for Exploders, B series, etc)

Belt Minder Deactivating/Activating

Preparation

1. Before deactivating/activating the belt minder, set the parking brake.
Place the transmission range selector lever in P (PARK) (automatic transmission) or the NEUTRAL position (manual transmission).

2. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.

3. Close all the vehicle doors.

4. Unbuckle the driver safety belt.

5. Place the parking lamps/headlamps switch in the OFF position.

Deactivating/Activating

1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. (Do not start the engine.)

2. Wait until the safety belt warning lamp turns off (approximately one to two minutes).

3. NOTE: Steps 3 through 5 must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure must be repeated.

Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt nine times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled. This portion of the procedure can be done before or during belt minder warning activation.

4. Turn the parking lamps/headlamps ON then OFF.

5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt nine times ending with the safety belt unbuckled. After this step the safety belt warning lamp will be illuminated for three seconds.

6. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning lamp turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt. This will enable the belt minder if disabled or disable the belt minder if enabled.

7. The following sequence of events confirm the belt minder is enabled:

-flashing of the safety belt warning belt lamp four times per second for three seconds

-three seconds with the safety belt lamp off

-flashing the safety belt lamp four times per second for three seconds again

8. The safety belt lamp flashing four times per second for three seconds provides confirmation that the belt minder is disabled.

9. After confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete.
