I really haven't used one.
And oh yeah, Fuck Obama. |
I bought a $50 heavy duty UTG bipod last week and its pretty nice for the money.
There are $20 UTG models that are well reviewed on Amazon. Worth a try before you drop $100 on a Harris. |
From what I've seen, the winning combo is an inexpensive bipod + loctite + Larue QD mount.
I suppose it depends on your purpose...
Bench shooting? Precision shooting? Going to be putting "weight" into the bipod? |

Surprised, no reversed Atlas photo yet. Personally, I like Harris.
I want to check out an Atlas ......maybe try my hand at copying one.
I've two Harris pods , a Versa-Pod rig and a B-Square. The VersaPod is a cool rig,and I like the set up ,except for the sloppiness on it's mounting stud. |

I've got an Atlas on my AICS - Well made, superbly engineered.
It out operates me... I just don't do the type of shooting where it excels. Next bi-pod will be something cheaper from CDNN. |

here is a good breakdown of what the 'big boys' use when they are trying to impress each other.
precisionrifleblog.com I have found from my limited experience, that the les expensive bi pods (shooters ridge, Caldwell, utg, ETC) all preform about the same. they hold up great for my .22 and .223 bench shooting but putting any recoil at all on them makes them wobbley... Harris FTW. there is a reason why the pros go there. |

Does anyone make a stainless or nickel finished Bi-pod?
I've been trying to pick one up for years |
How about a rolled up jacket or your ruck? I think bipods are extra weight forward on the rifle and unnecessary.
But if you get one, I like the pan and tilt ones mounted towards the rear of the barrel. |
I have to Harris bipods. 1 on a psl and 1 on my 20 inch ar. The work great and I have had no problems with either.
I have a 6-9" on my SPR, and it's next to useless in the field. Too short to see over grass. I'll be replacing or with a 9-12" |

Most people don't in that case. |

There is harris ($65-75 if you look around) and there is atlas ($180-200).
Harris 9-13 if you are going to use it in the field (6-9 is too short if you shoot around brush or grass), with swivel and leg notches, with some sort of pod loc equvalent.
QD Atlas is the answer. I have Harris on a couple and the Atlas is king.
When I get rich/get into precision LR shooting, I'm getting an atlas. For now, I use field expedient support, and have witnessed standing offhand shots at 400 yards. Another guy got a hit on 800 yard steel in a hasty support position with a 11.5" AR and an aimpoint.

Harris- swivel, notched legs, with a pod-loc. Height is up to you.
You want a swivel model so you can adjust out any cant in the field. |
On my hunting rig, (.277WLV or 300blk), I plan to put a Magpul VFG out near the muzzle, then, if necessary, find a Y shaped stick of an appropriate length to jam in it, for a field-expedient bipod. YMMV
ETA: but that picture of an Atlas is pretty cool |

Atlas vs. Harris vs. whatever is going to come down to how you want to deploy it, how fast, and how much you want it to weigh. I have an Atlas and love it. If you actually need a bipod, you're probably beyond the point of worrying about saving that amount of money. If you're broke, shoot off of a backpack with some crap in it. |

I have had 3 Harris bi-pods o my hunting rifle, 2 of those broke.
I now have Atlas for my AR's, fucking people on ARFcom forced me to pony up the money. |

Also I'm gonna throw out the old parker hale bipod as being the best field bipod. The more available versapods are ok too. However they aren't great for range shooting. |
For my money I like Harris Bipods. I use the ones with a swivel for LR shooting.
