Secluded place along the Trinity River here in Dallas where weird birds from the Gulf Coast and Mexico fly in during the summer. They are not seen anywhere else in such numbers. I have a blind down there that I built and while checking out the Wood Storks, 3 feral pigs come out of the sawgrass and head out across the lake. Pretty cool to watch them do that. Even cooler to see the birds nearby just ignore them. In the far distance they spooked a larger flock of Wood Storks that fly away.

In the Southeast, Wood Storks are a federally threatened species, so sightings like this are somewhat special, even though these Wood Storks probably came up from Mexico.

This is inside the city limits of Dallas too!

If you want to sneak up on birds this fall, dress like a pig.

Good guess.  A lot of Texas is exactly like Africa.  That's why introduced exotics do so well here. (Blackbuck and water buffalo for example)

Beautiful pic OP.

There are egrets and Herons too. The Wood Storks are the taller ones with the long beaks. In the photo above there are 62-63 of them. There were over 150 in that little lake last night. Ibis, Spoonbills also.

That's what Wood Storks look like, the only stork in North America. 3-4 feet tall they really stick out.

They be wood storks, a reasonably common sight here in FL. Also have sandhill cranes and roseate spoonbills.

ETA, and ibis, and egrets, and herons.

I came upon a wild pig a few months ago swimming across the Neches river. I went up to him and got a look. Dude looked tired.

They got a ton of wood storks in Jacksonville, FL. The zoo no less but no in enclosures. I guess it's a good spot for them.  Nasty birds.

They were inside the city limits of Dallas, Texas....5 minutes from downtown Dallas. Illegal to discharge a firearm inside the city limits, although people do all the time down there.
