I had a saudi in my OBC. Incredibly smart. Very proud. Loved the bars. Very very very lazy.

ETA: Our Saudi also had trouble understanding that I was somehow half chinese yet considered myself an American. It was comical trying to explain to him how pledge allegiance to the US...and not China. He also loved to spend his money on us whenever he could. Loved buying drinks.

ETA2: The Saudi woman in the video is pretty attractive.

I just watched that today, the MTV episode that is.  I had an idea of how things were over there, but I had no idea it was that bad.  It was an eye opener.  It is worth watching.

After Desert Storm, it became Operation Desert Calm (Yeah, inventive). We would go on bus tours of the souk in Ad Damman and Al Khobar. I never felt so far from home. A Saudi guy comes running up to me and asks how I grew so tall. I told him it was good genes. He thanks me and goes running off. We're like, ok, weird! A few minutes later he comes back up to me with a pair of Levis clutched in his hands and says, "See, I have good jeans as well now!". Yeah, that one was lost in translation.

We drove from King Fahd AB to Riyadh to pick up some gear. I caught up with some buddies at Eskan Village and when we got off duty we went to a big mall downtown. I had dealt with the Saudi HP, but had never seen the Morals Police, the Mutawa or Mutawa'in. We're walking through the mall and this lady in a chador, or abaya, is walking with two small children and another woman. We called them BMOs (Black Moving Objects) or Ninja Women. Typical GI humor. Anyway, these folks are walking ahead of us and the lady with the kids has the back of her abaya hitched up on her left leg, static or something was making it stick and showing her leg.

All of a sudden this guy in green fatiques comes running up with what looks like a sjambock and winds up a home run on this poor lady's leg. He's yelling, she's screaming and wailing, and the kids are terrified. I'm shocked and run towards the guy as I'm yelling at him saying, "Hey, knock that shit off!", but my buddy's grab me and tell me who the fuck this clown was. Anothe Mutawa'in shows up yelling at us and pointing his stick at me. I wanted to jam that thing up his arse. We hustle out of the mall and I'm like WTF! I was never so happy to leave a place as I was Saudi Arabia.

I had the greatest time there in Al Khobar. I was on mids so I missed chop chop square in Dammam   I watched the Mutawa have a running battle with kids who were using the phones during late afternoon prayer time there in the park next to the TCN mall in Khobar. It was a blast watching them chase the kids and hit them with sticks. It was a life size version of Whack-A-Mole.

I've never heard a single person say 'Saudi Arabia was a great place!'

It's always some bullshit with those people. Fuck that whole country.

I'd love to visit the middle east as a tourist. I'd love to go Kuwait City and Abu Dhabi...

It is oddly familiar . . . we had one, too.

Also, a Georgian and two Poles.  Ran into the Georgian this year, back at Ft. Gordon.  It was good to see that he made it through the war in one piece.

I had a friend who as flight instructor, had a Saudi female student, of all things.  Her family, who was pretty progressive, would still only let her fly with a Muslim man.

He said, one day, while flying, she basically broke down and said, "I can never go back to Saudi Arabia.  Here in the US, flying, I am free."  He said it was the most heartbreaking thing he ever saw.

Did you make it to the Phu Kat Thai restaurant? I loved that place! Even though the San Miquel beers were non-alcoholic. There'd be some BMOs eye fucking you with smoking hot eyes (Yeah, that's all we could base them on) We'd pray for a good stiff headwind and hope it blew the fabric tight against them, then we could better evaluate the product underneath. What horney bastards we were.
