You'd think so but this guy obviously isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. After all this is the same guy who the best solution he could come up with for his problems was to murder his family and run into the woods.

BINGO!!!!. You have to figure this guy did some research when he build this. Viet Cong tunnels had just about all of AR15.com's suggestions covered. Multiple hidden entrances/exits, design's for keeping out poison gas, alternate sections in case of a cave in. As far as I know we never did come up with a way to get at them effectively in tunnels. I sure as heck wouldn't want to crawl in there after him.

Maybe some of the smaller robots the military has would be useful for at least letting you know some of the layout. Though if the cops have the guys plans for building the bunker they may already have a lot of intel. That's a major screw up on his part.

On the other hand it is possible that this guy didn't do it. From the article all they have on him is that his wife and daughter are dead and he is no where to be found and is an odd guy. It's possible that someone else killed them and him as well and his body just hasn't been found (unlikely). Time will tell. If he did do it then hopefully he just eats a bullet (likely).

The police are probably not equipped to take care of a bunker. I bet the local National Guard has had some experience from Afghanistan and could help clear it out safely and permanently.

2. Move everyone back 500 meters and send a small unmanned vehicle aloft to survey the area
3. Ask TC of said Bradley to ventilate the opening of said "bunker"
4. Watch for explosive jets coming from any other openings
5. Repeat # 3 as often as required
6. Cover area with roving robots
7. Send in trained teams of cadaver K9's and their handlers 24 hours later
8. Mourn family members
9. Take out the trash left by the TOW missles and move on
10. Leave no stone unturned to fry this turd

Some 40mm tear gas will bounce in there nicely. You can also close the hatch, to help from the gas escaping. The gas will also let you know if there is another exit.
