I had a friend who called me in a panic today. He was dating this girl and performed oral sex on her, then found out later that she tested positive for Herpes 2. How he's stressing out and having himself tested. He keeps thinking about Herpes sores all over his mouth.

How careful are you guys really? I keep reminding y'all that IMMEDIATE and THOROUGH application of soap and warm water will kill the herpes virus. Your buddy is fucked. Seriously, unless she is having an outbreak (which he would have, presumably, noticed) or is having viral shedding, he's probably going to be fine. There is no good (inexpensive) way to test for Herpes without a sore being present. Even the expensive test is not 100% accurate.

Dunno about herpes but some STDs can be "active" on the inside of the vag out of view.... It's not the herpes that would gross me out...it's knowing that at some point that same virus was reproducing all up and down some dude's cock, and now it might be in his mouth

ETA: Yeah, intervaginal lesions can be there, and are generally asymptomatic. Banging slutty girls is risky business. IF she had sores at the time, there's a decent chance he'll get them. If she wasn't currently expressing an active infection, the he's most likely OK. On the plus side, HSV II oral infections stay oral (if he gets cold sores on his mouth, they aren't going to travel to his genitals). FYI, while HSV II is generally associated with genital herpes, if YOU have HSV I (cold sores), you can give your partner genital herpes. Be careful what you lick/suck on folks. |

Your "friend" should probably come up with a reason to not have sex with his ACTUAL girlfriend for a few weeks... "'he' gave it up for Lent" might be a good one. |
