This country is becoming really polarized.
You have two parties (or at least candidates) who are each trying to restrict people's natural rights, and then accusing the other side of doing so. I get a kick when I hear Kerry say he'll defend the Constitution... .yeah, except the 2A. I get a kick when I hear Bush say he'll defend the Constitution... yeah, except equal protection under law, searches and seizures, seperation of church and state.. I could go on.
American politics are in a sorry state. Nowadays, both parties think that THEY know what is best for the American public. They are starting to DICTATE policy, rather than it coming from the people. People need to wake up and realize that they can actually make better decisions on how to live their lives than politicians (thats what they say about gun control... if we can take care of ourselves, our need for our politicians to protects us drops). But the public is scared of terrorism, and their families being deployed for a long time, and being a victim of crime, and metereors, and zombies, so they sit back and let others protect them, no matter what the cost.
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. "
Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
