I have this 1 or 2 gig sd memory card which came with a sales demo on it I'd like to somehow wipe it and re-use it for my camera or something else but my camera wont format it etc etc does anyone know how to wipe them clean?

is there a write protection switch on the card that prevents it from being written to? some have them.

it also may have been a propritary card that was locked by the manufacture of the demo to prevent such use.

There is a switch on the card an it is in the unlocked position it has all the connections of any other card. there is a "sales demo" label on the card under that is small engraving that matches that of my kingston 2gb card. but my cameras wont read it or even let me format it is there any way to hard wipe it and wipe out the data--thus the lock--I'm not worried about hurting it cause it'd be no loss if I cant use it anyway. I thought there might be a "short pins x&y" or "apply 1.5 v across pins x&y" solution to get into it.

2GB SD flash cards are $11 shipped www.pricewatch.com/flash_card_memory/

How much time is it worth?

I suspect that your card has been locked so it can't be rewritten. Trivial to do when ordering 100k of something.

if your not seriously worried you could try seperating the plastic case to see if the lock switch has been disabled.

I'm not seriously worried about it and Im bored so I might just "destructively test' your theory. Or resurrect the shower cookie thread.

Easy to wipe out, 1. While Formating it unplug it. 2. May be a zip file on the card from the factory, open it up and usually you will find a uninstall program in there.

I believe 2 gig cards are a newer format, SDHC, rather than the older SD.

You need a camera capable of handling SDHC cards to have it correctly use a 2 gig card.

ETA- woops SDHC is for 4 Gig and up, you should be ok.
