thinking about picking one up for either the SGL-21 or 31

anybody own a POSP scope for their AK?

Are these things fairly simple to zero?

I have an 8x one on my M14S.  It is ok I guess.  Heavy as hell.  Note that when you adjust the reticle, you move the whole reticle inside and not just the glass.  There should be some PDF's of the manual for the various version out there.  I am not sure I would buy another one, but I like the SVD style reticle.

I used to have an AKM SAR1 with the 4x power version.  I never used it because the side rail mount for an AK sucks and sent it back because it would not stay put (it could have been an out of spec mount with improper tension).-probably about as fantastic as having to try different mounts for an M14/M1A and scratch your head wondering why it does not all align right.

Great scopes for the money.  With the AK mount, they sit a bit too high for my taste.  I used an SVD cheek piece on a triangle folder to give me a perfect sight picture.  To zero, loosen the top screws, zero at 100m and then re-tighten at number 1. Either use the reticle if caliber specific or figure out your adjustments by shooting out to different ranges for other calibers.  They make an x39 reticle that is graduated out to 300m for the SGL21.

Here is a good source for com bloc optics.

Yes pretty simple to zero.  Once zeroed you can then use the rangefinding chevrons or adjust for known ranges in meters easily.

For a  SGL21 you would want the 400m version with AK clamp mount.  Other versions with SVD clamp can be made to work,  and some newer ones have a so called universal SVD clamp that has a stop screw for use on the AKMN rail as found on the SGL21. AK clamp is still preferred for larger clamp surface area.

IMO 4x is ideal for these rifles in magnification and overall size of the optic itself.

I run a 4x POSP in my converted Saiga, and I love it. Easy enough to zero.
I also have to remove it to fit in my safe. It re zeros without issue!

Here's how you adjust the tension on a Russian side-mounted optic.  It's kind of a pain to set it the first time but once it's set it stays put.  I've never had one have to be re-adjusted and it looks to me it would require an impressive amount of force (enough to destroy the optic) to knock it out of whack.

Has anyone put the SVD-style reticle in a scope with more modern internals?  I like the reticle but the scopes do have their quirks.

gotta know how those chevrons work btw its not a simple red dot, I think the top triangle is the head, like the chevrons symbolize the man standing I am sure

hehe those commies were ready for war.. I find it strange, the country they were so eager to go toe to toe with...and now they are selling old surplus equipment
just ranting
