Hello,
I know there's a Ruger forum, but I figure I'll get more help in GD. I bought a NIB Ruger LCP w/ Lasermax two days ago at a local LGS. Went back the next day to their range to fire a few rounds. Shoots great, but with six rounds in the mag, I can't get it seated. By at least a 1/4". The store just said the spring is very tight. OK. I'm not a gun guru so I took their explanation. I went home, broke it down, took the barrel out of the slide, seated the mag and then slid the slide back on to see how much the spring needed to go down. There's NO way I've got enough room in the mag to get the mag to seat properly. I can't press down hard enough to get that space. For those of you who have LCP's, did you have this issue? I've got brand new Glock 21 mags that are tight enough that putting that 13th round in is tough, but it will still latch. Thanks for any help! |

Assuming you have the correct factory mags and the proper ammunition, it should hold six and allow seating on a closed slide with a firm tap.
If it doesn't, something is wrong with the mag. Take it apart and check it out. If theres a problem, send the mag back to Ruger. |

SEND IT BACK is my new motto.
My brand new S&W Bodyguard came with the front sight pushed all the way over to the side, and the safety took 2 hands to take "off" (completely useless in a stress situation) I called S&W...their advice was to "drift" the front sight into place. I said "drift, you mean a 4-letter word for whacking a brand new gun with a hammer??? YOU do it, I'm sending it back!" They fixed it...took about a month to get it back. Sold it a few months later because it was a POS. I am damned sick and tired of paying good money for crap that doesn't work as advertised, ie. Kimber "Custom Shop" Raptor II with a trigger with a 1/8" of creep and feels like sandpaper-on-sandpaper. Semi-autos that won't return to battery, etc. I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore

| Do you have a second magazine? At one point LCP were sold with two mags, but I think it's one now. In any case, get a second magazine if you don't have one already and see if a different magazine works. Something is wrong with either your magazine or your pistol. Alternately, just call Ruger. They'll give you a shipping label and you can send the whole thing back. |

No, it only came with one mag. Should it have come with 2?? During the last panic, magazine shortages made a lot of companies drop the second mag from their packaging. Sig, for example, cut all but one magazine out of new pistol sales across the board (which kinda sucks, because Sig magazines are really expensive). IIRC, Sig is back up to two mags with every gun. Ruger dropped mags from some guns, but not others. I know all the .22LRs still shipped (and still ship today) with two mags. I don't know which models were affected or may still be. It's likely that the popularity of the LCP is forcing Ruger to still only ship with one mag. I don't know. BUT, I do know that Ruger factory mags are quality components, generally speaking, and that many Ruger firearms have big problems if you don't use factory mags. Are we certain that this is a Ruger factory mag? If it is, Ruger will replace it. If it's not, go punch your dealer in the neck. |

No, it only came with one mag. Should it have come with 2?? Cheap bastiges. It's their right to make a buck, but I swear some of these guys are short-sighted. Cheaping out on the basics may hurt you in the long run, when the buying settles back down to long term gun owners. |

I own two LCP's and neither magazine is like this and neither are tight for that matter.
Loading mine is like loading a .22. It's that easy. Possibly you have a defective magazine. Get another one. You need more than one anyway. Both of my LCP's came with only one magazine. |

I don't know how it could be a bad mag. It seats with 5 just fine. I really don't want to have to send it back to the factory when I just bought it and wait a month. Can the gun store do anything for me? Switch it out? Just get another magazine. As I speak mine is loaded with six Critical Defense and one in the chamber. No problems. Get another magazine. |
