Anyone here do the cross-country road rally bit?

We were discussing it in chat how the rich folks like to do this and figured that we should have a tightwad rally instead for the regular joes.

Your team's entry would be ranked on a combination of monies spent and time taken to drive the course.  That includes gas, speeding tickets, etc., of course.  [:)]

What do you think? Say, $1000 limit on the car and mods before the race, and go from SF to NY?

Only if I can find a Trabant to do it in.

We could also do this: www.ugofast.com/Events/?EventID=7450  The Trabant might not keep up though.

Gumball Rally is one of my favorite movies of all time.  Wish they would bring it out on DVD.

Is there a total of $1000 worth car that can break the speed limit?
With cannonball runs there have been  2 so far and theres a DVD documentary about they called gumball 3000 http://www.gumball3000.com
Some of these guys were clocked going 180+mph and were arrested(some got away). Of course alot of them are foreigners and are filthy rich so they bailed themselves out and did it again.

$1000 vehicle?  I'd take one of those used racing go karts that can do 0-60 in 3 and 135mph top speed.

Vehicle would have to be street legal.
There are several "cheap" rides you can break the law in.  See if you can score a Honda CRX near you.  Or a geo storm.  Make sure it has good tires [:)]

The idea of this isn't to go 180, but to make it cross country cheapest and quickest.  The challenge is going to be getting a car that works and can drive that far.  Of course, if you CAN do 180 in your $1000 car, more power too you.  [:D]

Why not just start all the teams in a huge junkyard, and have em build thier ride then go cross country.  No time limts on junkyard time, but first team to make it all the way from 'sea to shining sea' wins.

Kinda a combo of Junkyard wars and cannonball run.
