I'm torn on which rail to buy between the Daniel Defense Lite and the RIS II. They're pretty close in price and, from what I've read, are both well-made rail systems.

So... which one do you guys think will retain its value better over the years if I later decide to resell it? The RIS II was chosen for a military contract, would this make a difference?

This I like the lite rail.

Same, but I don't think you can really go wrong.  Lite rails are just....awesome.

Rails are not collectors items. They lose value as soon as you unwrap them, and more when they are installed. You may find someone to buy it, but there is nothing to say that they will appreciate in value.

I have two RIS II, with and without FSP cut. The RIS II is a two piece system, easier to clean than the Lite. I think the RIS II is more desirable than the Lite.

So no evidence of a military contracted piece of equipment losing or holding more value when compared to its commercial AR counterparts?

Why don't you do some research on the used pricing of each?  Why don't you just buy a used one to limit your losses?

I consider this thread as part of that research since there's a wide-ranged knowledge base within this forum. I might check out a used one though, good idea.

Yup.  Check the EE.  Rails usually sell for between 2/3 and 1/2 of orig price.  Buy an used one

I seriously would never build a rifle based on its resale value.  Build what works for you, shoot the hell out of it, and don't worry about whether someone else will like it.

They both will work perfect for me so I need some kind of tie-breaker!

See all the (former) military KAC-RASs on ebay and the EE for a third of MSRP?

Matech sights, Surefires, mil pouches, Leathermans, Gerber06s...

Mil contract guarantees a flood on the surplus market eventually

Go with the lite

+1

Possible future value is an extremely poor primary criteria to buy gun stuff by.

Get what you think will work best for you.

Rails, indeed accessories in general, are going to have virtually no effect on resale value.  In a system as modular as the AR there's a good chance however buys will remove half the stuff you put on it and use his own.
