So my lawn is messed up this year. I sprayed my entire lawn with eliminator weed killer. The kind that attaches to your hose. It killed off the weeds pretty good. How long after spraying should I wait to reseed?

What  chemical was in it?  If glyphosphate, you should be able to seed immediately.

Sometimes the label will tell you how long to wait.

Fpni. But if there is a selective herbicide in it that is supposed to be safe for grass, it may be a couple weeks before you can seed. If there is pre emergent in what you used, it could be a couple months.

I got through half my lawn before realizing that it was weed + GRASS killer.  I got lucky since new grass is starting to grow back without reseeding.

Unless you want to water your yard all summer, I'd wait until this fall to plug and seed the yard. Not sure of your climate there, but anything you try to plant here in the spring just ends up drying out and dying no matter how much you water.  Reseeding in October produces grass that survives and does well the following year.  But if you really feel like reseeding now (good seed isn't cheap), then read the label on the herbicide you sprayed and it should say when you are safe to plant.

it is just a weed killer. It is not weed and grass. the label doesn't say when to reseed. Here is what it contains:

To be safe I'd wait 2 weeks before seeding. If you are using fescue you may have a hard time getting it to live to maturity planting it this time of year. Would definitely want to aerate and reseed again in the fall. Do you have lots of shade?

Exactly-
Wait until September and kill all the weeds. Spray once then spray again 7 days later. Wait about 10 days and reseed or plug. If your yard has a lot weeds it might be better to spray Round Up and kill everything, Then do it again a week, later then seed. Or you could get a lawn service to do it correctly for you.

We do have kids but no one was on the lawn for over 48 hours and when they were it was just for walking over, not playing. I on the other hand got a quick shower over my hands with it. Hose wasn't screwed on completely . it sprayed all over my hands. Cleaned myself up right away.

Reseeding sucks.

Tear up the old dead shit and resod.
Link Posted: 4/24/2016 8:47:40 PM EDT
Wait until fall. And water water water. Do not seed in spring youll get weeds and the heat will probably kill it.

Almost all the weeds in the yard are dead from the spray. So is it recommended to just wait it out til fall and seed?

4 weeks.

2-4D is the bees knees.

Scotts does good, but doesnt kill clovers.

Use Speed Zone for spotting, takes out cloves, and has 2-4D

Best time to seed, fall
Link Posted: 4/24/2016 9:22:30 PM EDT
Best bet is to wait until this fall.  Use herbicide again, dethatch and pick up everything you drag up, aereate and then overseed.
Link Posted: 4/24/2016 9:29:11 PM EDT
Thanks for the help. I will do as recommended. I will make sure to pull and kill as many weeds as possible and the seed in the fall. One person above said "gross" when looking at the chemicals used in the weed killer. I kept animals and everyone off the lawn for a couple days after use. Even after that nobody really uses the front yard. All activities are in the backyard which does not need any work. Is there some thing wrong with that method? I figure once it is dry it should be safe. I just waited a couple days to be safe.

This thread is a little freaky. I was just thinking of asking arfcom about reseeding.

I was thinking of tilling up sections of the yard and reseeding, covering with straw mats to protect the emerging grass. Downside is that it doesn't really get rid of the weeds already in the soil.

So if I follow the advice in this thread, what should I be looking for in a killer that only hits the weeds?

Spring seeding only feeds the birds......same with overseeding in spring.  Unless you want to straw your whole  yard..
Aerate/plug  your yard, then seed in fall.
Make damn sure you keep the dead leaves off  your yard.....ESPECIALLY if you have maples. Otherwise you'll end up with a dead  yard with a pH of 3.... or one full of moss.

No since in you making the same mistakes I did.
