What's the big deal? Buy a plug/receptacle from Home Depot for 5 dollars, strip the wires, make the connections, done.
You mean an electricity hose?
Just get an electricity hose clamp. |
Apologies as I FUBAR'd my original post at the last minute when trying to add the Amazon item on the end. Wiped it out, except for cord pic, so I had to start over. First post is fixed!

Or these are cheap and good enough for a homeowner.
And here's a real crimper:
Just twist the wires together, keep the splices separated by a couple of inches, and wrap plenty of electrical tape on them. They'll be fine.
I buy a lot of cheap disposable tools, but when I cut or strip wires, it is always with a Klein product.
Remember to unplug it before you put the new end on.
I know a guy who forgot to do that once |
Congrats, you now have 2 extension cords! I've repaired a few as well and keep them for spares, but for outside use only just to be extra careful.

I use those m/f crimp on terminals and lots of tape and/or heat shrink. Don't use wire nuts on anything mobile. I'm sure you can get away with it, but to me it's not worth the risk because they don't really save you any time or money.
Those wire strippers are fine if the thread gauges are capable of cutting small screws and bolts. I edc a similar style at work. Pretty handy. |

How long do the klien wire cutters stay sharp? Any proboems with the grips slipping off or breaking apart?
I'd go butt connectors then heat shrink it all together but I'm no electrician.
My dad used wire nuts on one and it's held up for 15 years now If they're both of meaningful length, make two cords |

You fucking guys crack me up.
Dude barely knows about putting this crap together and people are throwing out suggestions for $45 tools lmao. I'm not an electrician. I've used a needle nose pliers cutter part to strip wire for decades, including when I worked at a hobby store where I soldered shit about 30 times a day. OP don't waste money on shit you don't need that will turn into clutter. What you have is fine for the task. The thing from amazon is what you need. Just make sure the polarity is correct. |
how is this complicated? cut, strip, crimp on butt connectors, wrap with E tape.
The first thing you need is a good pair of dykes.
Lesbians are great at fixing shit like this. |

No code compliant way to keep it as one cord that I know of. But you can make two cords of of it.
It's not rocket science. I'm sure there's a youtube or website showing you how to do it exactly. Or even Home Depot has books.

Maybe you should check out the thread where a members parent's house burnt down due to an extension cord

Secondly, buy a new damn extension cord and throw the chewed up piece of shit away. View Quote This. Dumb ass ex BIL had one spliced with wire nuts (no tape) in three places, plugged in, and laying in a puddle. Called me because GFI was tripped and wouldn't reset. I found it, unplugged it, sent him in to reset it, got my Klein Linesman pliers out and cut it into 2 foot sections while he was occupied. He was pissed but the dumbass had young kids running around. |
