HISTORIAN TO U.S. SOLDIERS: DISOBEY YOUR COMMANDER IN CHIEF

PETER N. KIRSTEIN, Professor of History, Saint Xavier University, Chicago, is encouraging members of the United States armed forces to disobey any orders to participate in a war on Iraq. He was quoted as follows in a dispatch from the Arab News, posted October 3, 2002:

It is my hope that large segments of our armed forces would refuse to engage in aggressive military action that would disgrace their families, their nation and all those who have worn proudly the uniform of the United States. Air National Guard units should refuse activation in preparation for airstrikes. Aircraft carrier battle groups stationed in the Persian Gulf should refuse to refuel or preposition aircraft that could attack Iraq. Special forces such as navy Seals and army Rangers should refuse invading Iraq in a preemptive war against a non-threatening adversary. If additional ground troops are deployed, hopefully they would not obey orders to murder civilians or destroy wantonly the delicate infrastructure of Baghdad, Basra and other Iraqi cities.

Professor Kirstein, according to his web page, teaches the following subjects: recent U.S. history, the Nuclear Age, Vietnam, the Cold War, national security policy, the political economy of globalization, and Marxism. After Daniel Pipes's Campus Watch began listing the dossiers of academics "identified as apologists for suicide bombings and militant Islam," Kirstein, along with over 100 other academics, volunteered to be placed on the list.

Campus Watch, after receiving criticism about the practice of keeping "dossiers" on academics--shades of McCarthyism--dropped the dossiers. Academics who volunteered to be placed on the list have received the following notice: "Unfortunately, we have removed the dossiers on individual professors from our site, so we cannot add you to them. However, we have included your name, title and institution on a webpage (www.campus-watch.org/apologists.php) that lists academics who submitted a form letter to Campus Watch in defense of apologists for Palestinian violence and militant Islam." Kirstein's name appears on this list.

Not only is this guy a complete whack job...he just got heavily "reprimanded" by the President of the college.

Uhhhhhhh...ok DF. Don't kill the messenger...I'm just relaying this dikhed's underpinnings. He's a Muslim sympathizer. Where have we heard that term before?

I would hope someone could confront this idiot..face to face.

Sometimes you gotta ask the tough questions in person [:D]

OK, I just sent another email about Prof. Fruit Loop.

To Dr. Richard A. Yanikoski, he is the President where Prof. Fruit Loop works. If he receives enough perhaps the subversive Prof. will be looking for new employment

Edited to say "I do NOT get the Arab News." even though this may have happened in Oct. Our voice still needs to be heard. LOUD and CLEAR.

Last I knew, The United States was a free country where people were encouraged to speak freely and offer dissenting opinions.  What is it that you find so threatening?  Not everyone agrees that worldwide imperial aggression is a sound idea.  No matter how vehemently you might disagree with this professor, he has just as much right as you do to speak his mind.

What is this, the new McCarthyism or what?

Ok, trickshot, suppose a whole regiment of Marines gets stuck in a SHTF scenario, and some dickweed pilot refuses to bomb the enemy forces because of this asswads idea? What then? I can imagine your response: "Well, the Marines shouldn't have been attacking the poor Iraqi's"

The military needs to follow orders even if they aren't right. (unless obviously illegal, like in Michael  News case, or to execute prisoners, etc. Then it is their DUTY to disobey.) An order approved by Congress and signed off on by the President of the United States is about as legal as you can get.

Your right. Everyone has a right to speak their mind, but sometimes you still get kicked in the nuts.

We have the same right to write to his supervisor and voice our concerns about his attitude and opinions. If he truly believes in what he's saying, he won't mind being fired for his believes, not that it's likely to happen. It's called being responsible for your words and deeds.

There goes Dickshot again.

When a "dissenting" view advocates mutiny, I think your opnion goes out the fucking window and you do as you SIGNED UP to do.  Quit if you're a pussy.

This academic sounds treasonous to me, this is beyond "opinion" and freedom of speech.  Ever hear of the crime of inciting a riot?  Is there free speech there?  Didn't think so.  How about conspiracy?  Nope, no freedom of speech there either.

When me thinks that trickshot is the DU equivalent of a KBaker-esque infiltrator.

What I find interesting is that like a typical liberal, he posts this utter drivel and then doesn't back it up.

Yes this twinkle toed anti-American elitist has a right to descent.

Try taking one of his pro them/f*** us classes and have a different opinion from his.  See how much freedom of speech there is when this communist f***hole fails you, just because you were prior military service member, or disagree in thought word or deed to his totally leftist world view.

I have seen POS like him on the campuses I was sorta educated at.

I know of a straight A student that went down to C's when those f***s found out he was a US Air Force PJ in El Salvador.

There was another ratilingus prof of geography at PSUC (It is pronounced P'SUCK, short for Plattsburgh State University College).  This weenie actively supported the Sandinistas in the 80's and 90's.  If you were in his class and did not support the third world loser lefties as he did, you will fail.

Bil(I Hate The Communist)ster

BTW trickshot, it's reverse McCarthyism Now.

Yes we are allowed dissenting opinions and a right to voice them. Since Peter N. Kirstein chose to use his position as a college professor as a conduit to voice his leftist opinions and repress the views of others with opposing views, it is perfectly acceptable to attack him in the same format. He gets no special previledges because he is a Socialist/Marxist/Leftist/ect...
Rather absurd that you come to the defense of a worm who was trying to limit  the 'free speech' of another who was trying to open a dialogue for free debate on a topic which Mr Kirstein found  offensive and unacceptable and had no desire to be open to debate.

McCarthyism wasn't/isn't right (blacklisting/ostracizing the opposition).

Neither was/is Marxist/Leninist Doctrine (murder/gulag for the dissenters).

Sir I am reccomending to the U.S. Magistrate in your jurisdiction, that you be charged with either sedition or treason, or both. I recognize your right to be a marxist, however that right does not convey upon you a right to attempt to influence the mission of the Military of the U.S. or endanger the service men & women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Edward Cope
